McKENZIE (October 12) — After two months of discussion, the McKenzie City Board of Mayor and Council voted against the de-annexation of Holland Farms, LLC by a split vote of 4-3. Voting against de-annexation were Councilpersons Bobby Young, Carol Armpriest and Tom Alexander; Mayor Ryan Griffin broke the tie with a no vote. Voting in favor of the Hollands were Councilpersons Charles Pruneau, Josefina Batton and Vice Mayor Jessie Townes.

Inglenook Book Club held its monthly meeting on October 11, 2023, at 3 p.m., at Lakeside Senior Living Community, McKenzie. There were 16 members in attendance. President Moore called the meeting to order, and thanked her co-hostess, Victoria Ard for assisting her serving delicious carrot cake and chocolate cake, along with candy corn/peanut medley, and assorted beverages. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Club Motto were recited by all. We had two guests present at the meeting-relative to member Jean McKinnie, and our local librarian-Ceil Pomphrey, who spoke to the group. Thank you was extended to telephone chair, Victoria Ard, for her calling to all members reminding about the meeting.

Average gasoline prices in Tennessee fell 9.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. Prices in Tennessee are 30.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 22.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 6.8 cents in the last week and stands at $4.41 per gallon.

Am I the only one confused here... I thought the Supreme Court ruled some time ago this “forgiving” government loans to college students was not legal, proper or allowed. I breathed a sigh of relief. Simply because I was under the strong persuasion that what’s fair for the goose is fair for the gander.

HUNTINGDON (October 13) — Friday night, Huntingdon welcomed Gibson County to Paul Ward Stadium for a region matchup. The Mustangs dominated the Pioneers on both sides of the ball and led the game 30-0 by the end of the first half. They scored twice more in the second half under a running clock. The victory advanced Huntingdon to a 7-1 record for the season, 5-0 for region play.
