McKENZIE — Fred’s store in McKenzie is one of 49 retail stores announced to close in the latest round of closures in the Memphis-based chain. With the Friday, July 12 announcement, Fred’s has announced a total of 263 stores in the last two months.
Recent store closures included Paris and Huntingdon. Fred’s has made a decision to close underperforming stores.
The retailer is located locally on South Main Street, McKenzie and occupies 15,300 square feet. It sold its pharmacy business to Walgreen’s in McKenzie as part of a corporate restructuring. The retailer first opened in McKenzie on Lee Street, where Bethel’s Renaissance offices are now located.
