Barbara Ann Lee Montgomery

McKENZIE, Tenn. — Funeral Services for Barbara Ann Lee Montgomery, age 79, are 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home. Interment is at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Officiants are Brother Dennis Trull, Brother Greg Barker and Maddie Barker. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 27, 2019, 11 a.m. until service time.

She was born December 4, 1939, in Tunica County, Mississippi, to Eunice Bailey Lee and Henry Grant Lee of Maud, Miss. and educated in Tunica County schools. She graduated from Tunica County High School in 1957.

She earned a B.A. degree from Mississippi College in 1961, and a M.A. Degree in Classical Languages from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1963.

On her first day in New Orleans, in September 1961, she met fellow Mississippian and Tulane student Bob Montgomery at the St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church. The two were married July 1, 1962, and enjoyed 51 years together until Bob’s death in 2013.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in McKenzie. Throughout her life, serving in the local church was one of her most fulfilling roles — through Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and the Women’s Missionary Union, Barbara served local churches in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Montgomery McBride.

Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca (Becky) McBride and husband, Kenny of McKenzie; Robert (Bert) Montgomery and wife, Jency of Starkville, Miss.; one sister, Linda Lee Wood and husband, Phil of Capay, Cal.; one brother, Henry (Hank) Lee and wife, Linda of Tunica, Miss.; and four grandsons, Matt and Will McBride of McKenzie, and Rob Montgomery and wife, Miko of Meridian, Miss., and Daniel Montgomery of Starkville, Miss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to McKenzie Memorial Library.
