Bethel University Wildcats begin their gridiron season on Thursday, 6 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium in McKenzie.
Bethel University Wildcats open the 2018 season at home in McKenzie Thursday, August 23 against the No. 2 Reinhardt University Eagles.
The Eagles lead the series 5-0. Bethel was picked to finish fifth in the Bluegrass Division in the Mid-South Conference Pre-season Coaches Poll. The Eagles were picked first in the Appalachian Division. The series began in September of 2013 with Reinhardt winning in Waleska, Georgia 41-36. The game will mark the third in McKenzie in the series.
Bethel is coming off a 3-7 season while Reinhardt, who made it to the NAIA title game last year, finished 12-1 on the season. Their only loss was to national champion St. Francis. Reinhardt finished second in the post season coaches’ poll.
This is the sixth meeting ever between the two programs. Reinhardt leads the series 5-0. It was the home opener for the Eagles last year in Waleska, Georgia and their play did not disappoint their fans as they captured a 33-0 weather-shortened victory over the Wildcats. The Eagles and weather were the dominating factors on the day. The game was stopped at the 2:20 mark of the second quarter because of storms and lightning in the Waleska area. The game was delayed for over two hours and with lightning lingering in the area the game was called giving the Eagles the victory.
The community is invited to come see Bethel open its 2018 campaign at home under the direction of Coach Dearmon.
