Carroll County FCE Council Meets

The Carroll County FCE Council met on Monday, January 28 in the small conference room at the Carroll County Complex. The meeting was called to order by the president, Pennye Mays. The inspirational thought was given by our lovely agent, Lacy Yeley. She read an article entitled, “ The Elephant Rope.” The minutes from our last meeting in October were read by the reporter, Danita Laman, in the absence of our newly-appointed secretary, Sarah Brown. The minutes were motioned to be approved by Mary Mays and a second to the motion by Danita Laman. The motion carried to approve the minutes as read. The treasury report was given and approved.

Old business: The bench we collected the lids for was tabled to the January meeting. It was decided to table it again pending new information. It will be brought up at the April council meeting on April 22. Other old business is the Soup and Chili fundraiser. It was decided it would be held on February 28. We are keeping the price the same as before: $5 gets a bowl of delicious soup or chili, cornbread or crackers, dessert and a drink. This event will take place in the Senior Citizen’s kitchen in the Carroll County Complex. Everyone is invited to come and support this fundraiser to send a girl to Line and DESIGN Camp held in Martin. Each club is responsible for providing two soups and one chili, two cornbreads (one of them Mexican cornbread), three desserts, one box of crackers and three drinks.

New business: The Dairy Contest will be June 5. This year the dish will be a main entrée. The requirements are: Ready-made available ingredients; clearness and accuracy of the recipe; recipe procedure followed; appearance; taste; originality; and serving suggestions and ideas on the entry blank. These requirements are what you are scored on.

Important dates to remember:

February 28 — Soup & Chili fundraiser

April 10 — Spring Rally (bring your cultural arts)

June 5 — Dairy Contest

September’s third week — Carroll County Fair

October 1 — Registration for state conference is due

November 17-20 — State Conference

December 9 — Cookie Exchange

April 3-4 will be a quilt workshop at the building on Airways in Jackson. Call the agent or Pennye Mays for more info. Club secretaries are to send in perfect attendance records and reading lists to Lacy, the agent, by February 1.

The meeting was motioned and seconded to be adjourned. We will re-convene on April 22.
