Construction Begins on New Macedonia Firehouse

MACEDONIA (August 20) — The Macedonia Fire Department is one step closer to having a new firehouse, thanks to contributions big and small from the community.
Concrete was poured Monday for the foundation, and construction on the building will begin as soon as possible.
In an interview with The Banner, Chief Brady Jackson explained that the older firehouse had major structural issues and was beyond repair. The department moved to a temporary building in the Hico community, which it will retain as a satellite station.
Chief Jackson said that funds for the project were acquired through community support. The fire department worked closely with the Macedonia Community Center in fundraising efforts.

Ground was broken last month on property adjacent to the community center, donated by J.C. and Melinda Popplewell. Labor, equipment and materials were donated by White Farms for the dirt work and by Tosh Farms for the concrete foundation.
Construction will be done by members of the community with a big assist from A&W Leasing, whose owner Anthony Moore is the former Macedonia fire chief.
Jackson estimates that the building will be completed in five to six months.
Fundraising continues with a BBQ dinner on Saturday, September 22 beginning at 10 a.m. at the community center.
