Huntingdon Football Players Honored for Tremendous Season

HUNTINGDON (December 6) — Huntingdon Mustangs claimed their second straight season of going undefeated in the region and advancing to the quarter round in the 1A state football playoffs. The Mustangs were 12-1 during the 2018 campaign and dominated their district and region opponents each week.
During a banquet on December 6 at the Huntingdon Church of Christ, players, cheerleaders, Quarterback Club members, and school administrators heard about the great season and how the team hopes to claim the gold ball at the TSSAA championship in 2019.
Senior-laden Cornersville claimed the victory over the Mustangs for the past two season. Head Coach Eric Swenson said the Mustangs are returning 19 or 20 seniors for the 2019 campaign and they, too, will be senior-laden.
The team earned many individual honors in the region. Region 6-1A team members were Hunter Ensley, Joseph Ricchardson, Bo McLemore, Matthew Ellis, Austin Avery, Chris Chaney, Brett Moss, Konner Pearson, Cole Edwards, and Dallas Willis. Honorable mention were Austin Baker, Drake Butler, Reed Jones, and Kelby Pearson.
Individual Award winners at the banquet were as follows:
Special Teams — Cole Edwards, punter, with 30 touchbacks of the 100 kickoffs and 2 for 2 on field goals.
Kody Byrd was the snapper for field goals and punts.
Defensive Most Improved — Bo McLemore
Best Linebacker — Austin Avery
Defensive Lineman — Joseph Richardson
Defensive Back — Konnor Pearson

Most Improved Offense — Austin Baker
Offensive Lineman — Chris Chaney
Offensive Back — Hunter Ensley
Paul Ward, Sr. Hustle Award — Dallas Willis
Top Weight Lifter — Chris Chaney
Captain — Austin Avery
Co-Captain — Joseph Richardson, selected by players
Region 6A Special Teams — C Edwards, and D. Willis
Player of the Year — Hunter Ensley
MVP — Hunter Ensley, selected by the Huntingdon Quarterback Club.
Each cheerleader was recognized and will be honored at the end of basketball season.
