Huntingdon Loses Two to Henry County, Sweeps Camden

HUNTINGDON (December 18) — Huntingdon hit the road on Saturday, December 15, to take on Henry County and came home last Tuesday to play host to Camden. The Fillies lost a close 1-point contest to the Lady Patriots thanks to one bad quarter offensively while the Mustangs had a sluggish first half and fell to the Patriots. The outcomes were different against Camden as the Fillies started out slow but ended up dominating the Lady Lions while the Mustangs were in a dogfight against the Lions from start to finish and won a close one at the end.
Fillies 55, Henry Co. 56
A bad third quarter scoring effort cost the Fillies a win at Henry County. The opening period was close with the Lady Patriots holding a slim 12-11 lead at the end of one period. The Fillies got hot in the second period outscoring Henry County 20-11 to take a 31-23 lead at the half. Adyn Swenson scored ten points during the period while Brooke Butler nailed a pair of threes and Kamaya Harris added a three-pointer of her own.
Huntingdon came out the third period cold as you could possibly be without going scoreless. The Fillies were outscored 15-4 in the period but still only trailed 38-35 at the end of three periods. Both teams scorched the nets in the fourth period with Huntingdon scoring another 20 points and the Lady Patriots answered with 18 of their own points. Swenson put together another ten-point effort in the final period as the Fillies fell to the Lady Patriots 56-55.
Adyn Swenson led all scorers with 26 points including 14 baskets and 4-5 shooting from the charity stripe. Tyasia Reed had 9 points, Addison Postlethwait had 8 points, and Brooke Butler had 7 points for the Fillies. Kamaya Harris added 3 points while Allie Jones chipped in a pair of free throws.
Kelli Chipman and Caroline Hudson led Henry County with 13 points each. Mary Raye Smith added 8 points while Ella Bomar and Averie O’Daniel chipped in 2 points each.
Mustangs 40, Henry Co. 52
A sluggish first-half scoring effort doomed the Mustangs in the nightcap against the Patriots. Henry County had the hot hand in the first period outscoring Huntingdon 17-9. Huntingdon was outscored again 12-7 in the second period to find themselves trailing the Patriots 29-16 at halftime.
The Mustangs came out and outscored the Patriots 14-10 in the third period to get the deficit to a manageable 39-30 at the end of three periods but the Patriots outscored Huntingdon 13-10 in the final period to hand them a 52-40 loss.
Xavier White led Huntingdon scorers with 10 points followed by Clay Pinson and Nikolas Bynum with 8 points apiece and Hunter Ledsinger with 7 points. Kaleel Bailey added 5 points while DeJuan Raglin chipped in 2 points for the Mustangs.
Henry County was led by Serrcy King and John Odoms with 12 points each. Deon Young and Donte Davis had 9 and 8 points respectively. Will Singleton added 6 points and Andrew Wimberly chipped in a free throw for the Patriots.

Fillies 58, Camden 33
Both teams got off to a sluggish start with no scoring in the first four minutes of the opening period. Huntingdon finally got the first points of the contest with the Lady Lions answering with a basket of their own. The Fillies then went on a 10-0 run to take a 12-2 lead with 2 minutes left in the period. They led 13-4 at the end of one period.
Camden opened the second period with 5 unanswered points to make it a 13-9 contest. The Fillies answered with back to back baskets to start a 15-4 run over the remainder of the second period to take a 28-13 lead into halftime.
Camden got hot offensively in the third period but Huntingdon maintained a double-digit lead throughout the period and led 44-25 at the end of three periods. The Fillies added 12 more points in the final period to win 58-33.
All five starters scored in double figures for the Fillies led by Tyasia Reed with 16 points. Brooke Butler had 14 points, Addison Postlethwait had 11 points including a pair of three-pointers, Allie Jones and Adyn Swenson added 10 points each for Huntingdon.
Camden was led by Rylee Rushing with 16 points followed by Jadyn Staggs with 7 points and Brenna Caldwell with 6 points. Abby Berry and Alabama Morrison chipped in 2 points each for the Lady Lions.
Mustangs 70, Camden 68
The boys contest was predicted to be a barn-burner and it definitely met expectations. The Lions had been averaging approximately 80 points per game so far this season. Camden opened up the first period with an early 4-0 lead with the Mustangs coming back to take a 5-4 with 5:00 left in the period. The lead went back and forth the remainder of the period with Huntingdon holding a 14-13 lead at the end of one period.
The second period was no different with both teams being physical and the lead swapping back and forth throughout the period. Huntingdon led at halftime 30—27. Huntingdon opened up the lead to nearly double digits before Camden nailed several three-pointers to make it a 48-46 game in favor of the Mustangs at the end of three periods.
The fourth period was everything a basketball fan could want out of a game with the Mustangs opening up a 57-52 lead in the first two minutes of the period. Camden came right back and tied it 60-60 with 4:00 left in the game. Huntingdon went on an 8-2 run over the next 3:30 to make it a 68-62 contest with 1:30 left to play. Camden hit a basket and a pair of free throws to make it a 68-66 contest still favoring the Mustangs. The Lions tied the game 68-68 on a basket following a Mustang turnover with a minute left to play. Huntingdon ran the clock down to 19 seconds and called timeout to draw up a potential final shot. Huntingdon’s Xavier White was fouled with 5 seconds to play. He hit the first free throw and Camden called timeout before the second shot. White buried the second free throw to give the Mustangs a 70-68 lead. Camden came down the floor fast and got off a three-point shot that rimmed out at the buzzer giving the Mustangs a hard-fought win.
Xavier White led the Mustangs with 24 points followed by Kaleel Bailey with 17 points and Clay Pinson with 10 points. Dallas Willis added 9 points while Hunter Ledsinger and Kameron Gordon had 5 points each for the Mustangs.
