Lady Bulldogs Fall to Trenton

GLEASON (February 21) — Gleason’s Lady Bulldogs played host to Trenton Peabody in the first round of the Region 7A tournament last Thursday night and led the contest for nearly three quarters before falling to the Golden Tide 44-39.
The two teams battled to a 10-10 tie in the opening period. Alexis Anderson paced Gleason with six of the ten points coming from a pair of three-pointers. Trenton’s Kiera Hill paced the Golden Tide with six points of her own. Trenton played a physical bruising style of game but the Lady Bulldogs gave as good as they got.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Trenton 11-7 in the second period with balanced scoring with points coming from five different players. Gleason held a 21-17 lead at the half. Hill claimed four of Trenton’s seven points in the period.

Gleason hung on to the lead for some of the third period but Trenton outscored the Lady Bulldogs 14-8 during the period behind a 9-point effort from Kiera Hill which included a pair of three-pointers. Gleason gave up the lead and trailed Trenton 31-29 heading into the final period.
Both teams played close in the final period but were forced to foul to get their hands on the ball. Trenton went to the free throw line 16 times in the fourth period hitting seven of them. Hill was 6-7 from the line in the final period alone. The Lady Bulldogs put up 10 points of their own but it wasn’t enough as Trenton eliminated them from the Region Tournament and ended their season with a 25-8 record and finished District 13A Runner-up.
Alexis Anderson led Gleason with 16 points followed by Kenady Atkins with 7 points. Alayna Anderson added 4 points, Carrington Lifsey and Ally Spain had 3 points each, Shelbie Burton and Veronica Rosa had 2 points each while Lillie Freeman and Chasney Brawner chipped in a point each for the Lady Bulldogs.
Trenton’s Kiera Hill led all scorers with 25 points including a pair of three pointers and hitting 11-13 free throws. KK Norman added 9 points while Indiah Williams and Adrianna Skinner had 3 points each. Olivia Ware and Jasmin Parker chipped in 2 points each for the Golden Tide.
