Lady Bulldogs Sweep Lady Falcons in Twin Bill

GLEASON (April 11) — The Gleason High School Lady Bulldogs hosted Lake County Thursday for a doubleheader of District 13A softball contests. Both games went down to the wire, with Gleason earning the sweep with two one-run victories.
In Game One, the Lady Bulldogs scored the first runs of the pitching duel in the fourth, then held off a Lady Falcon rally in the fifth for a 2-1 win.
In Game Two, a tie at the end of the fifth forced extras. In the bottom of the sixth, Lady Bulldog Cory Burke scored on a one-out, walk-off single by Bailey Bandy for a 6-5 Gleason win.
Game One: Gleason Lady Bulldogs 2, Lake County Lady Falcons 1
Gleason broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. A fifth-inning rally by Lake County fell just short at one run.

Lady Bulldog Ally Spain was 1-for-1 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Lilly Ruesken was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Krista O’Callaghan was 1-for-2 with an RBI. McKayla Ivy was 1-for-2.
Cory Burke earned the complete-game win for Gleason, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out seven and walking none in five innings.
Game Two: Lady Bulldogs 6, Lady Falcons 5 (F/6)
Lake County struck first with three runs in the top of the first, and Gleason answered with a pair in the home half. The Lady Falcons added a run in the third, but the Lady Bulldogs tied it with a pair in the bottom half. Lake County regained the lead with a run in the top of the fifth, but Gleason plated a run in the home half to force the sixth inning, in which they won it on a walk-off.
Lady Bulldog Ally Spain was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Bailey Bandy was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. McKayla Ivy was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Cory Burke was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Krista O’Callaghan was 1-for-3. Lexia Snider was 0-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and three stolen bases. Lilly Ruesken was 0-for-3 with two RBIs.
Cory Burke earned the complete-game win for Gleason, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out ten and walking none in six innings.
