Posted

MCKENZIE, Tenn. (November 9)  – The Bethel Lady Wildcats upended the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders 53-51 Friday night in the SSAC/MSC Challenge held at Crisp Arena. With the victory the No. 21 Lady Cats moved to 4-1 on the season.  LWC fell to 2-2 on the year. Bethel is 95-13 all-time in Crisp Arena.

Neither squad was able to find their groove from the floor as Bethel shot 33 percent hitting 18 of 54 attempts from the floor. Lindsey Wilson was 18-of-59 at just 30 percent. Bethel was 2-of-10 in three pointers while Lindsey was 3 of 18 from the three point area. Both teams shot well from the foul line with BU hitting 15 of 17 while LWC was 12 of 15.

Bethel led 23-17 at the half and maintained a lead for the most part until Lindsey tied the game at 51 in the last few seconds. Bethel’s Tyasia Willis grabbed a rebound and knocked down what proved to be the game winner with a stick back with 1.5 seconds left. Lindsey Wilson called time out and got the shot they wanted but Reagan Turner’s shot rimmed out at the buzzer.

Turner, Lindsey’s best players and one of the best in the MSC led the Blue Raiders with 16 points. Jynea Harris had 10.

Willis finished with the double-double with 12 tallies and 10 rebounds. She also blocked six shots. Myah Taylor led the Lady Cats with 20 points while Morgan Martin finished with 13 points.

Coach Chris Nelson was impressed with his team’s play.” First of all, Lindsey Wilson is a really good basketball team and is so well coached. This is a good win against a quality opponent. We were able to find a way to win and Willis was great tonight. We have to do a better job on the boards as this was the second game in a row we lost that battle. I thought Jani Crawford played well for us and that is great to see. We have very little time to rest and get ready for a good Cumberland squad.”

Bethel meets Cumberland University Saturday at 6 p.m.
