MURFREESBORO (May 24) — Several local athletes from McKenzie, Huntingdon and Dresden earned medals in track and field events at the Spring Sports Championships at Murfreesboro. The top eight finishers in each event earn medals in that event.
In Track and Field, McKenzie, Huntingdon and Dresden sent several athletes competing in different events. McKenzie sophomore Chris Barnett medaled in the state shot put competition finishing 7th with a top throw of 46’00. Allie Chappell competed in the 800-Meter Run but did not finish in the top eight.
HHS Senior Dejuan Smith medaled in the state long jump completion finishing 6th with a 20’5” jump. Corieon Nance finished 3rd in the 100-Meter Dash with a time of 10.75. Nance, Smith, Dallas Willis, and Ethan Reliford medaled 5th in the 4X100 Meter relay with a time of 43.21 Zack Williams medaled in both the 1600-Meter and 3200-Meter Runs. Williams finished 6th in the 1600 with a time of 4:50.33 and 5th in the 3200 with a time of 10:45.59. Junior Daniel Arnold narrowly missed medaling by a foot finishing 9th in the state discuss competition with a 130’10” throw.
Dresden senior Loral Winn caps a stellar high school track career winning three state championships in the 800-Meter, 1600-Meter and 3200-Meter runs. Winn ran a 2:14.77 in the 800, a 5:10.76 in the 1600 and a 11:43.70 in the 3200 to complete the sweep. Her high school career began in 2016 with her finishing 2nd in the 800 and 1600-Meter Runs. As a sophomore, she finished 3rd in the 800 and 2nd in the 1600. Winn won the 800 and 1600-Meter runs last year as a Junior.
