Local Candidates Vie for Local Chancery Court Vacancy

The Tennessee Trial Court Vacancy Commission will consider five applicants when it meets Tuesday, June 25 to select nominees for the 24th Judicial District covering Benton, Carroll, Decatur, Hardin, and Henry counties. The vacancy was created by the recent appointment and confirmation of Judge Carma Dennis McGee to the Court of Appeals, Western Section.
Two Carroll Countians and two Henry Countians are among the five applicants being considered. J. Brent Bradberry of McKenzie and Jennifer Twyman King of Huntingdon along with Rebecca Griffey and Shon D. Johnson, both of Paris. The fifth candidate is Vance Walker Dennis of Savannah.
Bradberry, from McKenzie, serves as assistant public defender for the 27th Judicial District, He is married to Carroll County Court Clerk Sarah Bradberry.
King resides in Huntingdon but has a private law practice with her husband, Dusty in Jackson.

Griffey is currently assistant district attorney in the 24th Judicial District and is married to State Representative Bruce Griffey.
Johnson is self-employed in private practice in Paris.

The meeting will include a public hearing starting at 9 a.m., during which anyone may express their opinions in opposition to the applicants. The Commission is expected to vote immediately following the interviews and forward three names to Governor Bill Lee for his consideration.
Lee’s nominee will replace Carma Dennis McGee, who served as Chancellor for nearly five years before being selected to the Tennessee State Court of Appeals earlier this year.
