The McKenzie Industrial Board meets Thursday, September 20 at 6 p.m. at the McKenzie Railroad Depot.

Carroll County Habitat for Humanity Gala

The Carroll County Habitat for Humanity Gala is Thursday, October 18 at the Carroll County Civic Center. Hors d'oeuvre will be served at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Kellye Cash, Miss America 1987. It will be an elegant evening of delicious food, great entertainment and an exciting auction for a great cause. Individual tickets are $50; a table sponsorship (eight tickets) is $400; event sponsorship is $600 (two tickets and recognition during gala). Area merchants and individuals can donate items for the auction. Each of the contributions is tax-deductible. Financial contributions enable Habitat homeowners to learn the responsibilities and skills necessary for home ownership and gives them a safe, decent, affordable place to live as well as a sense of pride and accomplishment. BBQ for Macedonia Fire Department

A BBQ fundraiser for the Macedonia Fire Department is Saturday, September 22 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Macedonia Community Center. Eat in or carry out for $8 per plate, which includes BBQ sandwich, baked beans, slaw, dessert and a drink.

Thousand Acre Lake Boat Ramp Closed Morning of September 15

The Carroll County Thousand-Acre Lake boat ramp will close to the public on Saturday, September 15 until noon as the inaugural Dixie Triathlon will be at the Lake Headquarters and surrounding roads that morning.

Boats and boat trailers will not be allowed into the Lake Headquarters parking areas until noon. Please plan accordingly. Police will be at the HQ entrance directing traffic.

Fundraiser for Scott Stewart

The second annual cornhole tournament for the benefit of Scott Stewart is September 29, 9 a.m. in the old gymnasium at Gleason School. All proceeds go to the Scott Stewart Medical Fund. For more information or to register, call Cruz Legens at 731-514-8902 or email clegens18@icloud.com.

Gleason Saddle Club 'Saddle Up for St. Jude'

The Gleason Saddle Club, 513 East Union Street, Gleason, will host the Saddle Up for St. Jude Horse Show on Saturday, September 15 at 5 p.m. Registration begins at 4 p.m.

The event will include Children, Youth, and Adult judged and speed classes with some fun classes thrown in the mix for laughs. Anyone can get involved through volunteering to request friends and relatives for donations or through corporate sponsorships.

Gleason Saddle Club is raffling, until the day of the show, a gas grill and a corn hole set at 3 tickets for $10. On the day of the show, a large metal cross will be raffled to some lucky winner. Barbecue plates will be sold the day of the horse show for $8 per plate.

All of the money raised from these activities goes to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Family Dance at Dresden American Legion

Long Heights Baptist Church Perishable Food Giveaways are on the second and fourth Wednesday night each month at 8 p.m. at the church located at 260 Old Paris Road in McKenzie.

CCHS Low-Cost Cat Spay, Neuter Vouchers

The Carroll County Humane Society provides low-cost cat spay/neuter vouchers for $35.00. Come by the shelter 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturdays. Call Paris Vet Clinic and set up your appointment. Take your cats in one morning and they come home the same day! That’s all there is to it.

Here’s all the information you need about these vouchers: Your city of residence or income doesn’t matter—anybody can buy these vouchers. You can buy as many as you need. All vouchers must be used at Paris Vet Clinic. Vouchers expire one month from purchase. You can use these for your cat or the neighborhood stray. You can buy the vouchers for others to use for their cats. This is an ongoing program. Cats just need to weigh two pounds, which is usually at around eight weeks of age.

United Neighbors is accepting summer clothing at this time. Please be sure those are clean and in good condition. If the bin is full, please take items to other donation boxes.

Food: crackers, cereal, ravioli, spaghetti noodles, and evaporated milk.

Personal Hygiene: Deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, bar soap and shampoo.

Assistance and shopping are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday. The store is closed Wednesday afternoon and Friday-Sunday.
