10 YEARS AGO — Carroll County’s bellweather status ended after 44 years. Since 1964, the presidential candidate who received the most votes in the county had also gone on to win the national election until Barack Obama won the presidency despite receiving less votes in Carroll County than John McCain.
*The workforce at Nestaway in McKenzie was reduced to approximately 100 workers on just one shift following a second round of layoffs stemming from the closure of the Whirlpool plant in Jackson.
20 YEARS AGO — The West Carroll school board approved moving forward to the planning phase of a new junior/senior high school to house grades 7-12.
50 YEARS AGO — Showing at the Park Theatre: Three Guns for Texas starring Neville Brand; The Patsy starring Jerry Lewis; Dark of the Sun starring Rod Taylor and Jim Brown; and What’s So Bad About Feeling Good starring George Peppard.
