McKenzie Lady Rebel Soccer Celebrates Stellar Season with Banquet

McKENZIE (November 8) — Players, coaches, parents and supporters gathered at McKenzie High School Thursday evening to celebrate a fantastic season for the Lady Rebel soccer team in which the team advanced to the state tournament for the second consecutive year.
The evening began with a blessing by senior Julianna Cole and a delicious meal catered by Big Daddy’s BBQ.
After dessert, first-year head coach Karlene Cheatham welcomed all to the gathering. She then presented each player and manager a certificate of recognition.
Next, she and assistant coaches Greg Barker and Jeremy Bilger (with help from her son, Lamarr) presented individual awards: Sportsmanship Award — Gracie Dillingham; Most Improved — Isabella Colotta; Rookie of the Year — Chloe Williams; Offensive Players of the Year — Libby Oakley, Maggie Aird and Allie Chappell; Defensive Player of the Year — Caleigh Britt; Attitude and Effort Award — Bailey Sawyers; Lady Rebel Spirit Award — Jazmin Ventura; Goal of the Year — Ciria Perez (She scored the deciding penalty kick in double-overtime to clinch the district championship.); Most Valuable Player — Maggie Aird; Lady Rebel Soccer Award — Julianna Cole; and Vicki Edge Long Servant Leadership Award — Holly Barker (a memorial to the late booster club president, secretary and treasurer).
Plaques were also presented to Coach Bilger and Coach Barker for their dedication.

The eight senior were then recognized and each presented with her framed jersey and her banner.
Gifts of appreciation were presented to Erika Cole, Kathy Wright, Amy Barker, Christie and Brad Chappell, Kayla Brasfield, Amanda Oakley and this reporter.
Seniors then expressed their appreciation for the coaches, presenting each with gifts and sharing favorite memories. They also thanked their fellow players, the parents and the fans.
Coach Barker closed the banquet by thanking Principal Tim Watkins, Big Daddy’s BBQ and the parents. Guests lingered to take photos and reminisce on their wonderful memories.
The Lady Rebel soccer team included: seniors Holly Barker, Caleigh Britt, Julianna Cole, Libby Oakley, Ciria Perez, Bailey Sawyers, Jazmin Ventura and Chloe Williams; juniors Isabella Colotta, Kim Essary, Sabrina Vasquez and Amber Wright; sophomores Maggie Aird, Haley Brasfield, Allie Chappell and Gracie Dillingham; and freshmen Sydney Fornera and Anna Grace Spivey.
Managers were Wynter Baucum, Anna Callahan, Kennedy Green and Lamarr Cheatham.
