McKenzie Middle Baseball Underway

The MMS Baseball Rebels are off to a hot start winning four of their first six games this season. They opened up February 25 at Milan and have since played host to Houston Co, Stewart Co, and Huntingdon. This last Saturday, March 16, the Rebels competed in the Hulmes Classic playing two games against Charlotte and Inman.
Milan - 6 McKenzie - 0
The Rebels opened their season against the Bulldogs having a rough day losing 6-0. Milan scored five runs in the first and added another run in the second inning. Jackson Cassidy got the lone hit against Milan while four Rebels reached base on walks. Jackson Cassidy pitched the first inning while Ty Anderson came in relief and pitched three innings.
MMS - 10 Houston County - 0
MMS came back on March 1 and scored 10 runs on 8 hits defeating Houston County’s Fighting Irish 10-0 for their first win. Tate Surber had a big day with three hits driving in two runs. Jackson Cassidy, Ty Anderson, Nolan Renfroe, Braden Birmingham, and Lane Anderson all got hits in the contest. Ty Anderson scored a pair of runs while several other Rebels scored runs in the contest.
McKenzie’s runfest began with a pair of runs in the first inning and then a big seven-run third inning and added a final run in the fifth inning. Nolan Renfroe went the distance giving up 2 hits and 4 strikeouts.
MMS – 7 Stewart Co. – 3
The Rebels played host to the Stewart County Rebels on March 7 coming away with their second win of the year. MMS had a big 5-run first inning and added single runs in the third and sixth innings. Stewart County posted a pair of runs in the fifth and a third run in the sixth inning.
Jackson Cassidy and Ty Anderson had 2 hits each while scoring two runs and one run respectively. Landon Brown scored 2 runs while Tate Surber, and Chaten Bivens scored a run each. Five Rebels had stolen bases with two of them stealing multiple bases.
The Anderson brothers both pitched with Lane getting the start going four innings, giving up three runs and striking out 6 for the win. Ty Anderson came in relief and struck out five in two innings of action.

MMS – 15 Huntingdon – 0
Last Monday, March 11, Ty Anderson threw a perfect game against Huntingdon giving up no hits, no walks, no errors and struck out 5 of the 9 batters he faced. The Rebels scored 15 runs on 14 hits in three innings of action. Jackson Cassidy went 3-3 at the plate driving in four runs and scoring one of his own. Ty Anderson also went 3-3 driving in three runs and scoring one. Chaten Bivens went 2-2 scoring two runs while Landon Brown went 2-2 driving in a run and scoring three runs. Tate Surber and Nolan Renfroe both drove in a pair of runs for the Rebels.
MMS – 8 Charlotte – 3
McKenzie Middle hit the road to Paris, Saturday, March 16, and won their fourth in a row defeating Charlotte Middle School from Dickson County in a noon contest scoring 8 runs on 7 hits. It was actually a close contest for the first three innings with Charlotte scoring a lone run in the top of the second to take an early lead. McKenzie exploded for four runs in the fourth and fifth innings while Charlotte added solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Lane Anderson and Nolan Renfroe both had two hits and two RBI’s each. Ty Anderson and Braden Birmingham both drew a pair of walks and scored two runs each for the Rebels. Lane Anderson picked up his second win pitching four innings giving up six hits and a run and struck out three. Dawson Brush finished the final two innings giving up three hits and two runs.
Inman – 10 MMS – 8
Later on Saturday, the Rebels gave up an early lead losing to the Inman Bulldogs in a barnburner of a game. McKenzie scored 8 runs on 9 hits while Inman scored 10 runs on 8 hits. Both teams scored a run each in the first inning. Inman took a 3-1 lead in the second inning with a pair of runs in the top of the inning. McKenzie scored three runs in the bottom of the second taking a brief 4-3 lead. Inman had a four-run third inning to lead 7-4 while McKenzie added a run in the bottom of the third making it 7-5. The Rebels tied the game 7-7 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs. Neither team scored in the fifth inning. Inman drove in three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-7 lead and held the Rebels to just a run in the bottom of the sixth to hand MMS their second loss.
Ty Anderson went 3-4 at the plate with a single, double and a triple driving in four runs and scoring a run. Jackson Cassidy had two hits and a walk while scoring 4 runs. Nolan Renfroe drove in two runs with a hit.
Jackson Cassidy took the loss pitching four innings giving up 6 hits and 7 runs while striking out 2. Nolan Renfroe came in relief giving up 2 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 1.
McKenzie Middle has two games this week before taking off for spring break hosting Inman Tuesday, March 19 (today) at 4:30 and will travel to Camden this Friday to face the Lions with a 5 p.m. start.
