McKenzie Sweeps Gleason

GLEASON (November 27) — Gleason Middle School hosted McKenzie Tuesday as the four teams closed out the regular season. The Lady Rebels held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the first and fourth quarters and breezed to a 40-17 win. The Rebels built a solid lead only to see the resilient Bulldogs cut the deficit to three points with just three minutes remaining. McKenzie’s boys responded down the stretch for a 55-42 victory.

The Lady Rebels set the tone by shutting out the Lady Bulldogs 14-0 in the opening frame. Briley Auvenshine and Savannah Davis each had four points, and MiKaela Reynolds and Kylie Reynolds each scored three.
Unfazed, the Lady Bulldogs outscored McKenzie 13-11 in the second quarter, led by Tinsley Parkins and Hallee Young with four points each. Ava Sawyers hit a three-pointer, and Keely Spain had a pair. Lady Rebel Kyeana Sneed scored five, including a three-pointer, and M. Reynolds, Katie Prather and Aaliyah Teague each had a pair. At the half, McKenzie led 25-13.
The Lady Rebels had an 11-4 tilt in the third, led by Auvenshine with five points. Davis scored four, and Sneed added a pair. Young scored all four for Gleason. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 36-17.
McKenzie sealed the win with a 4-0 shutout fourth. K. Reynolds added a pair, and Prather and Davis each hit a free throw.
Lady Rebels Briley Auvenshine and Savannah Davis led all scorers with nine points each. Kyeana Sneed scored seven, including a three-pointer.

McKenzie had a 13-12 edge after the first frame, led by Marquez Taylor with five points. Zay Webber hit a three-pointer, Bryson Steele and Etijay Tharpe each had a pair, and Ralph Dennie hit a free throw. Garrett Pinkston led Gleason with eight, including a three. Kyzer Foley and Carter Cook each had a pair.
The Rebels pulled ahead in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-8. Taylor led with six, and Tharpe scored four. Webber, Bryant Haynes and Stafford Roditis each had a pair, and Steele hit a freebie. Pinkston and Kylan Borneman each hit a three for Gleason, and Foley added a pair. At the half, the Rebels led 30-20.
McKenzie added to the lead with a 10-8 advantage in the third, led by Tharpe with eight points. Webber added a pair. Borneman hit another three-pointer, Donald Shell also scored three points, and Pinkston added a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 40-28.
The fourth started with a momentum swing to the Bulldogs, but the pendulum reversed and the Rebels capped the win with a 15-14 tilt. Taylor scored eight, including a pair of three-pointers. Steele, Haynes and Dennie each added a pair, and Webber hit a freebie. Pinkston scored six for Gleason, and Borneman had four, including another three. Foley and Shell each added a pair.
Marquez Taylor led McKenzie with 19 points, including a pair of threes. Etijay Tharpe scored 14.
Garrett Pinkston led Gleason with 19, including a pair of three-pointers. Kylan Borneman scored ten with a trio of threes.
