McKenzie to Award Solid Waste Contract Thursday

The McKenzie City Council will meet Thursday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m. in a special called meeting to award the solid waste disposal contract. Sealed bids were opened on Monday, May 20. Only two bids were received: Republic Services and Red River Waste Solutions. Both companies provided bids for a five-year contract with the city. Republic Services’ bid was lower at $10.49 a month and Red River’s curbside bid amounted to $11.41 a month. Through the recommendation of the Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) both bids are acceptable by the law; the council holds the right to accept or reject any and all bids. City officials present during the bid openings were Mayor Jill Holland, Public Works Superintendent Johnny Mercer, Solid Waste Liaison Elaine Brown, Councilman Randy Callahan, Councilman Brian Winston and Councilman Jason Martin.
