MHS Sweeps Big Sandy in Senior Night Doubleheader

McKENZIE (April 16) — The McKenzie High School Rebels hosted Big Sandy Tuesday for a District 11A doubleheader. It was also senior night for the Rebels, and between games, the eight seniors were recognized on the field and joined by their parents. McKenzie dominated both games, with seniors Chase Daffron and Luke Bennett four-inning shutouts, 17-0 and 24-0 respectively.
Rebel seniors are Chase Colotta, son of Terry and Sharon Colotta; Luke Bennett, son of Brian and Holly Bennett; Landon Johnson, son of Mindy McCallum; Chase Daffron, son of Stuart and Meredith Daffron; Harold Smith, son of Harold and Beckie Smith; Tyler Spivey, son of Kelly and Mary Spivey; Murphy Watkins, son of Tim and Sandy Watkins; and Dashun Woodson, son of Paige McClerkin.
Game One: McKenzie Rebels 17, Big Sandy Red Devils 0
McKenzie scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, nine in the second and three each in the third and fourth.
Rebel Harold Smith was 2-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored. Landon Johnson was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Evan Jarrett was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Chase Colotta was 1-for-2 with a walk, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Zayden McCaslin was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Chase Daffron was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Phillip Smith was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jake McDaniel was 0-for-0 with two walks and a run scored. Nick Simpson was 0-for-1 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Murphy Watkins was 0-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tyler Spivey was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Chase Daffron earned a complete-game, one-hit shutout for McKenzie, striking out eight and walking none in four innings.
Game Two: Rebels 24, Red Devils 0
McKenzie plated six runs in the top of the first, three in the second, one in the third and 14 in the fourth.
Rebel Jake McDaniel was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Tyler Spivey was 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored. Ethan Travis was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Cameron Kee was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Luke Bennett was 3-for-3 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Riley Joyner was 1-for-1 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. Evan Jarrett was 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Brandon Boaz was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. West Cook was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Chase Daffron was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Dashun Woodson was 0-for-0 with a walk, an RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base. Eli Surber was 0-for-0 with a walk, three runs scored and a stolen base. Nick Simpson was 0-for-1 with a walk, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Harold Smith was 0-for-1 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
Luke Bennett earned the complete-game shutout for McKenzie, allowing five hits while striking out four and walking one in four innings.
