MMS Sweeps Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON (October 18) ­— McKenzie Middle’s Basketball teams made the trip through Mayo Bottom to cross county rival Huntingdon and came away with a pair of wins at Huntingdon Middle School.

It did not take long for the Lady Rebels to build a big lead since Huntingdon failed to score in the opening quarter. McKenzie got off to a slow start themselves only scoring 8 points but it was enough to have the lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a lot closer with the Lady Rebels scoring 10 points and the Fillies 9 but due to not scoring at all in the first quarter. The Lady Rebels held an 18-9 advantage at halftime.
The second half is when the points really started coming with the Lady Rebs scoring 12 in the third quarter and 14 in the final quarter to pull away and win by 21 points. McKenzie held Huntingdon to 14 total points in the second half scoring 8 in the third quarter and 6 in the final quarter.
Katie Prather led all scorers with 13 points including a pair of three pointers followed by Savannah Davis with 11. Kylie Reynolds added 6 while Briley Auvenshine and Payton Ognibene had 4 points each. Hanna Dillingham, Mikayla Reynolds, and Aaliyah Teague each had 2.

Lia Fuller led the Fillies with 8 points. Lexie Stevens added 5 while Kyliegh Carter, Jayviona Hutch, Natalie Kreuziger, and Josey Stokes all put up 2 points apiece.
Rebels 46 Mustangs 16
The Rebels opened up a 15-5 lead after one quarter and never really looked back after that. Huntingdon had a chance to get back in it with McKenzie only scoring 4 points in the second quarter but they only had 5 of their own as the Rebels took a 19-10 lead into halftime.
The Rebels built a 33-14 lead by the end of three periods and tacked on 13 more points in the fourth period winning 46-16. Huntingdon managed only 6 points in the second half scoring 4 in the third period and just 2 in the final period.
A lot of Rebels scored in the contest led by Marquez Taylor with 13. Zay Webber and Etijay Tharpe added 6 points and 5 points respectively. Zach Aird came off the bench scoring 7 points. Bryant Haynes and Hayden Garrett had 3 points each. Bryson Steele, Ralph Dennie, Stafford Roditis, and Tate Surber all had 2 points each. Cadon Steele had one point in the contest.
Huntingdon was led by Tayshawn Rivers with 6 points. Isaiah Austin had three, Samuel Angelos, Keller Smith, and Micah Allen each added 2 points while Elijah Flowers had 1 point.
