Huntingdon Mustangs Finish Regular Season Undefeated

Mustangs Pillage Middleton Vikings, Win Region Title

MIDDLETON, Tenn.(October 22) — For the second consecutive season, the Huntingdon Mustangs finish the regular season undefeated at 10-0. Friday night, the Mustangs traveled to Middleton to take on the 1-7 Vikings. The first quarter was all Huntingdon needed to build an untouchable lead against the Vikings. With a running clock and shortened quarters, Huntingdon pillaged Middleton 57-20.
In four plays, the Mustangs scored three touchdowns. A pair of TDs were from Dequan Robinson; one from 29 yards out and the other from 49 yards. Hunter Ensley popped off a 34-yard touchdown. Cole Edwards tacked on a successful extra-point, while Ensley and Konnor Pearson racked up two successful two-point conversions. The three scoring drives came before the 9:23 mark of the first quarter.
Sandwiched in between the Huntingdon scoring frenzy, the Vikings were able to score on a 48-yard pass from Luke Turner to Andre Hoyle. The two-point conversion by Zyquavion Perry was good.
At the 7:30 mark in the first quarter, Dallas Willis scored Huntingdon’s fourth touchdown of the night from 45 yards out. Edwards’ PAT was good as the Mustangs lead 30-8.
Bo McLemore dominated for the Mustang defensive picking up multiple sacks in the game. McLemore forced a fumble for his thirteenth sack of the season that was recovered by Sebastian Kee.

Taking over on the Viking 12 yard line, Ensley teamed with Pearson for a touchdown pass. Huntingdon lead 37-8 after Edwards’ PAT.
The Mustangs would score on their next possession following a turnover on downs by the Vikings. With 3:39 on the clock in the first quarter Huntingdon was back in the end zone after runs by Ensley, Pearson and finally Robinson for the TD. The PAT put the Mustangs up 44-8.
Middleton ran the remaining time of the clock to close the first quarter. Huntingdon scored on the first play on the second quarter with Willis tearing down the field for a 83-yard touchdown. The PAT was wide left as Huntingdon went up 50-8.
With a running clock, the Mustangs began a series of substitutions allowing the starters a rest. Huntingdon’s second team held the Vikings at bay. On offense for the Mustangs, Aden Hutcherson, Malek Cannon and Grant Bartholomew worked the ball down the field for Huntingdon’s final touchdown of the night. Mustangs lead 57-8 with a little over a minute to play in the first half.
The second half opened with a running clock and shortened eight minute quarters. Middleton would score the final two touchdowns of the night. Around the two minute mark of the third quarter on 51-yard sprint from Hoyle crossed the goal line. The failed two-point conversion made the score 57-14. Then in the final minute of the game Turner’s screen pass to Tyler Dickie was good from 48 yards. The final score was 57-20.
Huntingdon concluded its regular season schedule Friday night along with winning the 6-1A Region title. and will have a bye week for week 11. The Mustangs should return to action at home on November 2 to begin the first round of the TSSAA State Playoffs.
