Mustangs Sweep Rebels in Home, Away Pair

HUNTINGDON/McKENZIE (April 9-10) — The Huntingdon Mustangs and McKenzie Rebels hosted each other last week for a pair of District 11A baseball contests. The two games were wildly different in every way, except the Mustangs came out on top in both.
Tuesday, in Huntingdon, a pitching duel lasted until the fifth, when the Mustangs scored the only runs of the 3-0 win. Hunter Ensley threw a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts.
Wednesday’s game in McKenzie was a back-and-forth affair, but Huntingdon surged ahead with 13 runs in the final two innings for a 19-8 victory.

Huntingdon scored the only three runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Mustang Hunter Ensley was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Bo McLemore was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base. Konnor Pearson and Brandon Lawton were each 1-for-2 with a run scored. Brett Huss was 1-for-3. Kelby Pearson was 0-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases.
Rebel Jake McDaniel was 0-for-1 with two walks. Chase Colotta was 0-for-1 with a walk and a stolen base.

Hunter Ensley earned a no-hitter for Huntingdon, striking out 16 and walking five.
Chase Daffron took the complete-game loss for McKenzie, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking one in six innings.
Mustangs 19, Rebels 8
Huntingdon struck first with a run in the top of the first, but McKenzie answered with three in the home half. The Mustangs regained the lead with five in the second, and the Rebels responded with a pair to pull within one. McKenzie tied it with a run in the third frame, then took the lead with a pair in the fifth. Huntingdon rallied for four in the sixth to pull ahead for good, then punctuated the win with nine in the seventh.
Mustang Hunter Ensley was 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Cole Edwards was 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and three runs scored. Bo McLemore was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Konnor Pearson was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. Javon Pritchard was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Brandon Lawton was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kelby Pearson and Brett Huss were each 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Sam Parrish was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Rebel Chase Daffron was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jake McDaniel was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Luke Bennett was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Phillip Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Tyler Spivey was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Harold Smith was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. Chase Colotta was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Cameron Kee was 0-for-1 with two walks and an RBI.
Blake Bradley got the start for Huntingdon, allowing two earned runs on no hits and two walks in a third of an inning. Kelby Pearson pitched a third of an inning, allowing one earned run on one hit while striking out one and walking two. Jace Lowe threw the next third of an inning, allowing two earned runs on one hit while striking out one and walking three. Sam Parrish pitched three and a third, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out one and walking one. Reed Jones finished out the final two and two-thirds and earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out one.
Luke Bennett started for McKenzie, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits while striking out two and walking one in five innings. Evan Jarrett pitched an inning and a third and took the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits while striking out two and walking one. Riley Joyner threw a third of an inning, allowing six unearned runs on four hits and a walk. Nick Simpson got the final out, allowing no runs on two hits with no walks.
