Person of Interest Dies Following Air Evac

HUNTINGDON — Last week, the sheriff’s offices in Weakley, Carroll and Henry counties were asking for the public’s help in locating Billy Andrew Smothers for break-ins and thefts.
According to an obituary from a Huntingdon funeral home, Mr. Billy Andrew Smothers, 32 of Huntingdon, Tennessee died Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Carroll County Sheriff Andy Dickson said his department could not release any information before the press deadline. The District Attorney’s Office is investigating the matter. A news release concerning the incident is expected later.

According to Weakley Co. Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan, Smothers had active arrest warrants from Carroll County for stealing a vehicle and an active federal arrest warrant.
Smothers was a person of interest in cases in Weakley County involving a residential break in and gun theft, the theft of a vehicle from a car dealership in Martin and the theft of a goose-neck trailer from Dresden Tennessee.
Smothers was also a person of interest in Henry County for the theft of a vehicle and a cattle trailer.
