The 2018 McKenzie Rebels completed their golf season last week at the TSSAA Small Division Golf State Tournament at WillowBrook Country Club in Manchester.
There were a total of 43 lady participants and 63 gentleman participants from across the state in the tournament.
The ladies finished their season by placing fourth at the state tournament. Maggie Glass concluded her sophomore season with an individual tie for tenth place, shooting 86/84 over the two days. Julie French ended her high school golf career with a 20th place individual finish after her two-day scores of 96/87. The ladies improved their second day team score by eleven strokes, the second-most improved of any ladies team from day one, as well as having the second best girls team score on day two. They had the tournament’s fourth-best second day team score, ladies or gentlemen. Their fourth place finish was eight strokes ahead of fifth place TCA and only eight strokes behind third place Sale Creek. The ladies were only ten strokes out of finishing in a tie for second in the state. Summertown won the ladies championship.
The gentlemen finished the season with a seventh place state tournament finish. Ben Austin finished his high school golf career tied for 15th individually with a 78/80 two-day performance. Johnathan Moore finished his second season on the team with tournament scores of 88/84, placing him in a tie for 42nd. Like the ladies, the gentlemen’s second day performance was second-most improved among their male competitors, with a 14-stroke better team score. Signal Mountain won the gentlemen’s championship with a close three-stroke win over defending state champion Alcoa.
