Rebels Sink Vikings to Advance to Semis, 63-50

McKENZIE (February 22) — The Region 6A Boys Basketball Tournament began Friday with quarterfinal games hosted by the higher seed.
The McKenzie Rebels hosted Perry County at Bethel University’s Crisp Arena, the scheduled site of the remainder of the tournament.
After an early Rebel surge, the Vikings gained enough momentum to make it a six-point game at the half. McKenzie took control in the third and pulled away for a 63-50 victory.
With the win, the Rebels advance to face Summertown in a semifinal game Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Rebels jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the first frame, led by Caleb Gill with seven points, including a three-pointer. Micah Austin scored six on a pair of threes, and Nate Whitsell had four points.

Ben Austin scored three points, and Lucas King hit a free throw. Viking Maclaine Pevahouse scored six on a pair of threes, and Walker Wright also hit a three-pointer. Tyler Dudley had a pair, and Jackson Tatum hit a free throw.
Perry County cut the deficit with a 16-13 advantage in the second quarter, led by Tatum and Pevahouse with four points each. Wright hit another three-pointer, and J.J. Capps also scored three points.
Dudley added a pair. B. Austin led McKenzie with four points. Lazarick Hill hit a three, and King, M. Austin and Whitsell each added a pair. At the half, the Rebels led 34-28.
McKenzie outscored the Vikings 18-10 in the third, led by B. Austin with a dozen, including a three-pointer. M. Austin hit another three, and King also scored three points. Tatum and Pevahouse each scored four points for Perry County, and Jackson Moore had a pair. Heading into the final frame, the Rebels led 52-38.
The Vikings had a 12-11 edge in the fourth to narrow the final margin, led by Dudley with five points, including a three-pointer. Pevahouse also hit a three, and Tatum and Hunter Trull each had a pair. B. Austin had all eleven points for McKenzie.
Rebel Ben Austin led all scorers with 30 points, including a three-pointer. Micah Austin scored eleven with a trio of threes.
Maclaine Pevahouse led Perry County with 17 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Jackson Tatum scored eleven points.
