Rotarians Hear About Block City Pizza

Posted

McKenzie Rotarians met at Block City Pizza on Tuesday, January 15. Rotarian Matt Lane, owner of the Block City-McKenzie was the program sponsor. He had his father, Marvin and mother, Shelly as the program guests.
After enjoying pizza, the members heard how Marvin and Shelly started in Hollow Rock in an area known as Block City in 1994. The former manager departed and Marvin’s dad, the owner, asked Marvin and Shelly to go manage the store. Marvin had worked at Michael’s Pizza in Dover and his dad started a Michael’s Pizza in Tennessee Ridge.
Block Pizza expanded to Huntingdon in 2000 and McKenzie in 2013. Marvin and Shelly’s daughter, Kirsten McPeake now owns the Huntingdon store and Matt owns the McKenzie store. All stores are within 15 minutes of each other, which helps when supplies need to be transferred. The dough, sauce, and cheese at all three stores are the original from the days of Michael’s Pizza.
They won the Tennessee Economic and Community Development’s online poll as Tennessee’s Best Slice in 2018 and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year in 2018.
