Oak Ridge Boys Heritage Festival

HUNTINGDON — Oom Pah Pah, Oom Pah Pah, Mau Mau. While these words might not make much sense on their own, audiences sing right along when they’re placed deep within a song by The Oak Ridge Boys. West Tennessee fans are in for a very special event — The Oak Ridge Boys will perform a free concert during the Huntingdon Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 23 on the court square.

The Oak Ridge Boys have sold more than 41 million records and are synonymous with “America, apple pie, baseball, and country music.” In 1981, their double-platinum single, “Elvira,” set the Pop charts on fire and paved the way for three more Pop-charted singles, “Bobbie Sue,” “American Made, and “So Fine.”

Registering multiple gold, platinum, and double-platinum singles and albums, The Oak Ridge Boys have charted more than 30 albums, including Deliver, Fancy Free, and 17th Avenue Revival.

The Oak Ridge Boys are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame (2015 Inductees), the Grand Ole Opry (since 2011), and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame (2000 Inductees). They also received the Academy of Country Music Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The executive director of The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center, Angela DeMaris, says this year’s Heritage Festival is one to be remembered. “Being the first festival after celebrating our Bicentennial of Huntingdon last year, we knew that we had to do something big in order to start off the next 200 years! Luckily, with the support of the Tennessee Arts Commission we were able to draw a major artist to our annual event celebrating our heritage, which is something the Town of Huntingdon is known for.”

Festival organizers plan to have a full day of fun events for all ages and hope that everyone comes out to enjoy this free live music festival.
