Tri-Counties Show Mixed Unemployment Rates

NASHVILLE (April 25) — The percentage of persons unemployed in February decreased from the February rate in the tri-counties of Carroll, Henry and Weakley.
Carroll County remained steady with a unemployment percentage of 4.6 in March compared to 4.6 in February and down from the 4.8 March 2018 rate. Of the 12,180 in the labor force, 11,620 were employed and 560 were unemployed.
Henry County had slightly more unemployed at 590 persons. In March, the number of people in the labor force was 14,510 with 13,920 employed for a rate of 4.1 percent, down from the 4.2 rate one month earlier and 4.3 one year earlier.

Weakley County posted an unemployment rate of 3.6 percent in March, up slightly from February’s 3.4 and down from last year’s 3.9. Of 16,580 in the labor force, 15,980 were employed and 600 were unemployed.
Four counties in West Tennessee are in the top ten in unemployment including Lauderdale, McNairy, Lake and Hardeman counties. The Northwest Tennessee region of Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Henry, Lake, Obion and Weakley counties continues to have the overall highest average unemployment at 4.2 percent across Tennessee.
Tennessee has a 3.2 percent rate of unemployment and the United States has 3.8.
Williamson County has the lowest rate at 2.4 percent, followed by Davidson at 2.5.
