Tri-County Unemployment Rates Continue to Decrease

NASHVILLE (March 28) — The percentage of persons unemployed in February decreased from the January rate in the tri-counties of Carroll, Henry and Weakley.
Carroll posted a unemployment percentage of 4.6 in January compared to 5.5 in January and down from the February 2018 rate. Of the 12,150 in the labor force, 11,580 were employed and 560 were unemployed.
Henry County had slightly more unemployed at 610 persons. In February, the number of people in the labor force was 14,470 with 13,870 employed for a rate of 4.2 percent, down from the 4.5 rate one month earlier and 5.0 one year earlier.

Weakley County posted an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in February, down from 5.1 in January and 4.0 one year earlier. Of 16,570 in the labor force, 16,000 were employed and 570 were unemployed.
Two counties in West Tennessee are in the top ten in unemployment. Lake County leads the state with a 5.9 percent unemployment rate. Lauderdale County is tenth with a 5.2 unemployment rate. The Northwest Tennessee region of Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Henry, Lake, Obion and Weakley counties has the overall highest average unemployment at 4.1 percent.
Tennessee has a 3.2 percent rate of unemployment and the United States has 3.8.
Williamson County has the lowest rate at 2.2 percent, followed by Davidson at 2.3.
