McKENZIE (SEPTEMBER 29, 2023) — On Friday, Tri-County Publishing, Inc. (TCP) dba The McKenzie Banner started a new chapter in its history of operation, ownership of the newspaper and printing company transferred from Joel and Teresa Washburn to their daughter, Brittany M. Martin, and son-in-law, Jason R. Martin at the law offices of Washburn and Hutcherson in Dresden, Tenn.

HUNTINGDON (January 4) — United States Senator Marsha Blackburn made a stop Thursday afternoon in Huntingdon as part of her 95 counties tour. Senator Blackburn’s stop in Carroll County was at the manufacturing plant of Dynamix Casting Fluxes. Local government officials with employees of the plant met with the senator.

McKENZIE (April 9) — On Tuesday, the McKenzie Rotary Club welcomed two new members into the club. Bethel University men’s basketball coach Jeff Britt and paralegal Phoebe Presson were inducted by Club President Jason R. Martin, who explained the significance of Rotary locally and globally.

McKenzie’s legendary barbecue pit master Chris Chadwick is a busy man, but don’t think that affects his cooking in any way. Since 2008, he has produced quality artisan smoked meats and built a strong reputation. He has attracted nationwide sponsors, flown to national competitions, and appeared on television. Yet the one-man-show still somehow finds the time to serve his hometown of McKenzie.

The McKenzie Rotary started the new Rotary year with a strong showing with the induction of three new members. The new members are Ricky Price (Vice President of Pepsi MidAmerica), Ben Wolksi (Network Administrator at the University of Tennessee at Martin), and Ryan Griffin (City of McKenzie Mayor). Each new member received a certificate of membership, a challenge coin, and a welcome packet explaining about Rotary. The Rotary Club of McKenzie was chartered in 1937 and has served an intricate role in McKenzie.

Spectrum today announced The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center (The Dixie PAC) will receive $10,000 through the 2023-2024 Stand For The Arts Awards, a partnership with Ovation TV that recognizes local arts, cultural and educational organizations and programs. Since the initiative started in 2017, Ovation TV and Spectrum have given out 70 awards totaling $700,000 towards arts education.

TREZEVANT (April 14) — Trezevant is proud of its new performance stage, playground equipment that complements its walking track, picnic pavilion and baseball fields. On Sunday, April 14, city officials and area citizens were in attendance for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open Trezevant Community Park, adjacent to West Carroll Elementary School.

McKENZIE (July 6) — Ice bucket challenges were really popular a few years ago. The concept was to fill a five-gallon bucket with iced water and dump that water on someone’s head as a fundraiser. A recent fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital took the concept to the extreme: ice water from the bucket of a front-end loader. That followed a pie in the face by Johnathan St. Clair. Will Walker had the pleasure of operating the bucket as he eased the levers forward to dump the water on Trent Johnson and Trent’s granddaughter, Lila Colvin.
