DYER (March 13) — The McKenzie High School Rebels traveled to Gibson County High School Thursday to face Dyersburg in nondistrict baseball action. A big third inning was the difference for the Trojans as they took the win, 11-5. more
TRENTON (March 10) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels traveled to Peabody High School Monday to face the Lady Tide in a high-scoring softball contest. more

McKENZIE (March 6) —- The McKenzie High School Rebels hosted Camden Thursday to start the baseball season. A four-run first was the difference as the Rebels took the win, 6-2. more
McKENZIE (March 7) — McKenzie High School baseball hosted Bradford Friday and cruised to a 20-5 win in five innings behind good pitching and two home runs by KD Cunningham. more
WAYNESBORO (March 3) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebels ended their season Monday with a 62-28 loss in the semifinal round of the Region 6A Girls Basketball Tournament to the tournament host Wayne County Lady Wildcats. more
WAYNESBORO (March 5) — The McKenzie High School Rebels ended their season Wednesday with a thrilling overtime loss to McEwen, 57-56, in the semifinal round of the Region 6A Boys Basketball Tournament hosted by Wayne County High School. more
McKENZIE (March 6) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebels hosted Huntingdon Thursday for a chilly softball game. The visiting Fillies scored in each of the five innings played for a 12-2 win. more

McKENZIE (February 28) — McKenzie High School hosted Collinwood Friday to open the Region 6A Girls Basketball Tournament. The host Lady Rebels were in control from the early minutes and cruised to a 70-55 win to advance to the semifinals. more
McKENZIE (February 25) — McKenzie High School hosted the championship round of the District 12A Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday. The host Rebels cruised to an 89-50 win over the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Tigers in the consolation game, and the McEwen Warriors claimed the championship, 50-47, after a thrilling, back-and-forth title game against the Houston County Fighting Irish. more
McKENZIE (February 24) — McKenzie High School hosted the championship round of the District 12A Girls Basketball Tournament Monday. A thrilling title game saw the host Lady Rebels fall behind early, then outscore McEwen in each of the final three quarters. Tight defense from McKenzie, coupled with a fearless offensive performance in the paint from freshman phenom Jaycee Stafford that yielded 39 points, kept the game in reach. Despite playing much of the second half without their Miss Basketball finalist Laila Downs-Darden, the Warriorettes held on for a 64-60 win. In the consolation game, the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Lady Tigers led early, but the Houston County Lady Irish bounced back and claimed a 58-47 victory and a third-place district finish. more
McKENZIE (February 17) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebels hosted Houston County Monday for a District 12A Girls Basketball Tournament semifinal contest. The Lady Rebels dominated the second quarter and coasted to a 48-31 win and a spot in the championship game. more
Area high school basketball teams saw district tournaments disrupted by winter weather last week. Some districts have since completed their tournaments, but others are still in process. Region tournament schedules had not been released as of The Banner’s press deadline. more
ERIN (February 22) — The McKenzie Rebels traveled to Houston County High School Saturday for a District 12A Boys Basketball Tournament semifinal. The game was tied after three quarters, but the Fighting Irish pulled away in the fourth for a 65-51 win and a spot in the championship game. The Rebels will play in the consolation game. more
The high school basketball regular season has ended, and district tournaments begin this week for area teams. The potential for winter weather on Tuesday, February 18 has already prompted some changes to game times, and further changes could be necessary later in the week depending on accumulation and road conditions. more
