Local Football Players Make All-State The Tennessee Sportswriters Associated listed its list of All-State players on January 4. Four players from McKenzie and one from Huntingdon were honored. more
McKENZIE (December 19) — Fans at the McKenzie-Milan prep basketball game on Tuesday, December 19 at the McKenzie High School Gymnasium, witnessed history when Savannah Davis, a McKenzie senior and Middle Tennessee State University signee, set a new state scoring record for the number of 3-point goals in a single game while she also matched the MHS high-scoring record for a single game. more
The McKenzie High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) recognized two outstanding alumni at the December 19 basketball home game vs. Milan. The honorees were Ricky Price (Class of 1974) and Derek Carr (Class of 2008). more
McKENZIE (December 19) — McKenzie High School football standout Marquez Taylor is transferring from Austin Peay to the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP). As part of the coaching carousel, Austin Peay’s Head Coach Scotty Walden, a native Texan, was offered the top spot at UTEP. Taylor announced Tuesday he was leaving the Governors to join Walden and the Miners team. more
McKENZIE (December 19) — On Tuesday, both the girls’ and the boys’ basketball had solid wins against the Milan Bulldogs. The Lady Rebels whooped up on their opponent 86-33, a game in which Savannah Davis knocked down 17 three-pointers (a state record) and accumulated 60 points for the game. Davis tied the Lady Rebel individual single-game record, equaling Anna Comer’s 60 points against Hollow-Rock Bruceton in 2016. more
GLEASON (December 12) — It appeared as a clinic on three-pointers as the McKenzie Middle School Lady Rebels tossed in seven three-pointers or 21 of their 46 points in the championship game against Greenfield (25 points) on December 12. Someone once described the Lady Rebels as an anaconda - just play with their opponents and then apply the squeeze. The score was 21 -17 at the half, but the third and fourth quarters wrote the end of the story. more
McKENZIE (December 15) — On Friday night, McKenzie welcomed the cross-county rivals Huntingdon Fillies and Mustangs for their first meeting of the basketball season. The Rebels split the matchup with a loss against the Fillies and a victory against the Mustangs. Both games provided a preview of Rebel strengths as they look forward to district play beginning in January 2024. more

McKENZIE (December 3) — On Sunday, the McKenzie High School Cross Country Team held a banquet to celebrate their season at Hometown Hangout. more
McKENZIE (December 5) — McKenzie Lady Rebels and Rebels took victories over the Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets and Yellowjackets on December 5. more
McKENZIE (December 8) — Just one week earlier, McKenzie Rebels and Decatur County Riverside football teams were playing in championship games. On Friday, December 8, many of those football players were representing their respective teams on the hardwood in McKenzie High School Gymnasium. McKenzie defeated Decatur County 56-39 in the nightcap contest. Decatur County was down in manpower with several key players absent. The Rebels are now 2-3 on the season, with the early losses, in part, because many of the team members were still playing football. more
CHATTANOOGA (December 1) — On Friday afternoon, the McKenzie Rebels made their fourth appearance in the BlueCross Bowl. After claiming the championship in 2022, the Rebels fell short 14-7 to the South Pittsburg Pirates on Friday after a hard fought game that was scoreless until the third quarter when a Jake Cassidy touchdown put the Rebels on the board. This was the third meeting of the two programs all of which have gone in favor of the Pirates. more
McKENZIE (November 27) — For the third consecutive year, the McKenzie High School Rebels football team is headed back to Chattanooga to the Division I Class 1A State Championship. This year, the team is defending their title against the South Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, December 1, at 3 p.m. EST (2 p.m. CST) at Finley Stadium. more
HERMITAGE (November 24) — With Friday night’s 25-14 win over the Dresden Lions, the McKenzie Rebels advanced to the TSSAA State Football Championship in Division 1, Class 1A. For the third consecutive year, the Rebels have earned a spot in the BlueCross Bowl and for the third time in four appearances, they will battle it out with the South Pittsburg Pirates. more
McKENZIE (November 24) — Friday night’s game against Dresden started as if it would be the last game of the 2023 season, at least in the first half. At the half, the Lions were up 14-0 and were set to receive the second-half kickoff, the Rebels came out the second half dominating on both sides up the ball scoring 25 unanswered points. The 25-14 victory now pits the McKenzie Rebels against East Tennessee rivals the South Pittsburg Pirates for the TSSAA Football State Championship. more
With two weeks remaining in the 2023 football season, the Rebels are on the cusp of making a third consecutive trip to play for the TSSAA State Football Championship. To make it to the final round, McKenzie will have to battle it out in a rematch with the undefeated Dresden Lions. Two other teams have the same goal in mind, South Pittsburg and Oliver Springs. more
McKENZIE (November 16) — McKenzie Lady Rebels won their opening contest for the 2023-24 season about the USJ Lady Bruins on Thursday, November 16. In the nightcap, McKenzie Rebels lost to the Bruins. The Rebels, in their second season game, lost to the Bruins. The Rebels have few players in the early season as they await the addition of players who also play on the football team. more
LYNCHBURG (November 17) — On Friday night, in what promised to be one of the best games in the playoff series, the McKenzie Rebels and the Moore County Raiders did not disappoint. Coming down to the wire, McKenzie defeated Moore County 28-27 advancing to the semifinal round of the TSSAA Playoffs. The Rebels moved one step closer to an opportunity to play for a second state championship. more
McKENZIE (November 9) — Savannah Davis chose to continue her athletic and academic career at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. The McKenzie High School senior signed commitment documents on Thursday to play basketball for the university. more
McKENZIE (November 10) — On Friday night the McKenzie Rebels picked up their eleventh win of the season and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the TSSAA Football Playoffs. The Rebels hosted the Collinwood Trojans coming away with a 43-0 win. Next Friday, McKenzie travels to Lynchburg to battle it out with the Moore County Raiders (12-0). more
