The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC) approved changing licenses to 365-day duration instead of expiring at the end of February each year. The new rule goes into effect beginning March 1, 2022. more
McKENZIE (September 8) — West Tennessee Public Utilities officials sponsored a luncheon for community leaders to thank them for their support of the natural gas utility. The event was held at Bethel University. They also promised to be progressive, community servants to serve the people, businesses, and industries of a five-county service area. more
HUNTINGDON (September 18) — The third annual Dixie Triathlon was held at the Carroll County 1000-Acre Recreation Lake on Saturday, September 18. Hundreds of competitors raced in one of two races: Sprint Distance: 500 meter swim • 16 mile bike • 5k run or the Olympic Distance: 1.5k swim • 40k bike • 10k run more
Earthquake Cake 1 can flaked coconut 1 cup chopped nuts 1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix 8 ounce cream cheese 1 box confectioners sugar 1 stick margarine, melted Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In 9x13 pan, put coconut and nuts. Prepare cake mix as directed on box. Pour over coconut and nuts. Mix cream cheese, confectioners sugar and margarine. Spoon in dollops over cake. Swirl into cake mix. Bake for 45-50 minutes. more
HUNTINGDON — After COVID-19 put the longstanding Carroll County tradition on hold last year, the Town of Huntingdon is ready to celebrate its 28th Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 25, with free, family-friendly activities planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Huntingdon’s historic Court Square. more
Saturday was another great day at the McKenzie Farmers Market with over 250 customers visiting our great vendors. We are looking forward to some of our produce vendors being back at the market on Saturday, and we were glad to welcome some new vendors including the Memory Bears. These are a beautiful and memorable way to remember your loved ones or to remember favorite clothing of your children and grandchildren. Bring clothing, and other items in and a creative and unique bear is made from the items. Each is truly a work of art and makes a beautiful keepsake. more
The Inglenook Book Club met in June at Lakeside Senior Living Community with Zia Locke and Sally Sutton as hostesses. They had prepared a Hawaiian Luau theme with tables decorated with pineapples, miniature palm trees, and other Hawaiian symbols. more
ATWOOD — National Beta announced West Carroll Special School District as a 2020-2021 National District of Distinction. This award is given to those deserving districts who offer National Beta in all schools in their district, and who induct qualifying students in all eligible grades (4-12). WCSSD is one of only 24 districts to receive this award nationwide. more
JACKSON (August 11) — On Wednesday, Former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam addressed alumni of the WestStar Leadership Program at the Southwest Development District office in Jackson, Tennessee. Haslam spoke briefly about his career and new book, “Faithful Presence: The Promise and the Peril of Faith in the Public Square,” as part of the leadership program’s “Lunch-Learn-Leadership series.” more
Garyn Hilburn, 11, Bruceton, the son of Teresa (David) Cawthon and Wayne (Andrea) Hilburn. He was fishing with his dad on July 10, 2021 and caught a long nosed Gar, 18-pound, 54-inch near Fort Pillow, at Cold Creek in Tenn. Garyn will attend Camden Jr High School, and is in sixth grade this fall. more

The McKenzie Farmers’ Market continues to have an increasing number of customers and vendors each Saturday and Tuesday. Last Saturday, over 320 customers and 17 vendors were there. Some of our regular vendors were out on vacation and we are looking forward to getting them back. We have fewer numbers on Tuesdays, but our great produce vendors continue to bring in customers on Tuesday afternoons. You want to be sure to check the parking lot out during the week because many times, some of our seasonal vendors will set up through the weekdays. more
