NASHVILLE (October 19) — Tennessee’s unemployment rate for September 2023 inched up slightly from the state’s all-time low rate of 3.1%. Data from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) showed the seasonally adjusted rate increased by 0.1 of a percentage point to 3.2% during the month. more

MEMPHIS (October 23) — The University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Nursing has received a $364,502 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that will allow a specialized education outreach to health care professionals in the Mid-South Delta region to improve care for patients with sickle cell disease. more
NASHVILLE (October 23) — The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD) will implement indexing for Tennessee unemployment benefits, as well as several other changes to comply with legislation passed by members of the Tennessee General Assembly in 2021, 2022, and 2023. more

TRENTON (October 14) — On Saturday, the City of Trenton honored longtime coach and city alderman, Frank Gibson. Pedestrian Park in downtown Trenton was The Frank Gibson Pedestrian Park. Gibson spearheaded the creation of Pedestrian Park, turning a vacant lot in the heart of the downtown area into what is now one of the most utilized and beautiful amenities the city has to offer. more
The McKenzie Rotary welcomed Mayfield, Kentucky Mayor Kathy O’Nan as a guest and program speaker. O’Nan who has served as mayor since January 2019 faced the COVID-19 pandemic and the F4 tornado that leveled most of Mayfield on December 10, 2021. more

The McKenzie Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is hosting their annual Fall Festival Fundraiser on Saturday, October 28 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at McKenzie Elementary School. There is no entry fee and this event is open to the public. There is a Silent Auction full of themed baskets and local business certificates and goodies, a Cake Walk, a Costume Contest and prizes for grades Pre-K-4th, food, sweet treats and games. They will also be crowning the 2023 Fall Festival King and Queen. more
KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII (October 14) — Kirsten Sass, local triathlon legend and trainer, competed against an elite field of professional triathletes in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii for the first women’s edition of the 2023 IRONMAN World Championship. more
HUNTINGDON (October 18) — During Wednesday’s Huntingdon Board of Education meeting, four teachers were granted tenure at the recommendation of Director Dr. Jonathan Kee. The four individuals, Leeah Bergman (HMS Math), Ryan Vincent (HMS History), Lesley White (HMS ELA) and Candice Wilson (HPS Pre-K), meet the requirements from Tennessee’s Department of Education. more

HUNTINGDON (October 19) — The Town of Huntingdon dedicated its government complex building in memory of long-time mayor and resident Dale R. Kelley on Thursday. A crowd of family and friends joined Huntingdon Mayor Nina Smothers for the dedication of the building. more
