The monthly meeting of the Inglenook Book Club was May 10, 202, at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie, with 18 members in attendance. President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order and extended a thank-you to hostesses Geneva Johnson and Shirley Martin. The ladies graciously served delicious warm peach cobbler topped with ice cream, assorted nut medley, and assorted beverages. The tables were decorated with tulip-designed napkins, and little spring baskets holding the assorted nut medley. more
McKENZIE — Dr. Justin Barden is in his first three months of service as the director of schools in McKenzie. One day last week, he temporarily accepted another assignment: substitute bus driver. more
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Departments of Agriculture’s Division of Forestry (TDF) is offering more than 30 varieties of tree and shrub seedlings for reforestation and conservation projects. TDF’s East Tennessee Nursery in Delano, Tenn., is accepting orders until April 1, 2024 or while supplies last. more
The Inglenook Book Club met for its monthly meeting on November 8, 2023 at 3 p.m., at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie. With 19 members in attendance, President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Club Motto were recited by all. President Moore thanked the hostesses Jean Hollomon and Suzanne Russell for serving delicious cookies, cheese ball and crackers and apple cider along with water. more

ATWOOD (March 7) — New vans, a pickup truck, a metal detector to screen incoming visitors or students, and a new storage building were all approved for purchase during the March 7 meeting of the Board of Education of the West Carroll Special School District. more
When Stacie Freeman saw the destruction the December tornado caused in her hometown of Dresden, one of her first thoughts was to cancel the March trip to Costa Rica she’d planned for students at Dresden High. As the director of Bethel University Global Studies program and a sociology professor who provides dual enrollment classes for Weakley County Schools, she weighed the cost of the travel against the loss of the cultural experience and, initially determined the local needs were too great. more

NASHVILLE (October 5) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is accepting Citizens’ Academy applications for the Nashville classes. The Citizens’ Academy starts on Oct. 26 and will meet weekly until Dec. 7. The one-day-a-week sessions are on Thursdays and run from 5:45 to 8:30 p.m. CT. This is not a state trooper academy. more

ATWOOD (March 7) — West Carroll Special School District launched a new phone app and upgraded its website to better serve the stakeholder of the school system. Michelle Robinson, who headed the project, displayed the newly available phone app, that will provide a central point of communications for teachers, students and parents. Robinson said the app and upgraded website will consolidate communications for the school system. more
McKENZIE (April 1) — Trudi’s Place has reopened in downtown McKenzie in a new location. Trudi Bannister held her grand opening on Friday, April 1 inside McKenzie City Florist, 2281 Cedar Avenue. The date marked the fourth anniversary of the florist, owned by Michele Jarrett. She and her late husband, David, opened April 1, 2018, their dream business that includes a coffee shop, florist, ice cream, and gifts. more
McKenzie Farmers Market had another big day Saturday, June 11. Over 325 customers came to browse the booths and hear the Colton Baker and Company Band. more
The Jackson Symphony will present a free community concert on the Court Square in Huntingdon on Thursday evening July 21 beginning at 6:30 p.m. “Symphony on the Move” is an hour-long event sponsored by Huntingdon’s Paula Atkins and Clarksburg Mayor Howell Wayne Todd in cooperation with the Dixie and the Town of Huntingdon. more
HUNTINGDON (September 2) — Lori Nolen is the new councilperson in the Town of Huntingdon. She was selected to fill the vacancy created when Vice-Mayor Nina Smothers assumed the office of mayor upon the death of Mayor Dale Kelley. more
