After a month-long competition to master the most words in Vocabulary.com’s 2023 Spring Training Challenge, McKenzie Middle School students took first place in their division. The students collectively learned and mastered 29,850 words. more
When the Denver Nuggets won the NBA finals Monday, June 12, it was monumental. Stepping onto the court June 1, the Denver Nuggets had never played in the NBA finals before. Eleven days later, the team won their first ever NBA championship. It was monumental — not only for the city of Denver, but also for Dresden native Ronald “Popeye” Jones who served as the team’s assistant coach. more
JACKSON (July 29) — After a week of events and competitions, the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant culminated on Saturday, July 29, with the crowning of Miss Lane College Volunteer Jada Brown as the 2024 Miss Tennessee Volunteer. Several women represented Carroll County in the pageant and made their own impacts on the competition. more

McKenzie Middle School announces a member of its cheerleading team, Caitlin Langley, will represent Varsity Spirit, the global leader in cheerleading, dance team and band apparel, camps and competitions and a division of Varsity Brands, the market leader in team sports, school spirit and achievement recognition, in the 2022 Orlando Thanksgiving Tour at The Walt Disney World Resort November 22-25. more
(May 26) — The May meeting of the McKenzie Garden Club was at the home of Mona Batchelor. The devotional was given by Marsha French who shared a poem entitled “What Heaven Means to Me” in which the writer enumerates the joys awaiting us in Heaven. These included: no night, no tears, no sorrow, sin, nor death; perfect weather and being reunited with loved one; meeting the old saints and hearing their stories; and, of course, seeing Jesus and living in His presence. more
Thursdays in McKenzie just got a little more musical. Nights on Broadway returned to downtown McKenzie Thursday, June 15. The Fajita Brothers opened the summer festival series at 8 p.m. more
Kiddie Korner held its grand opening ceremony on Friday, July 28 at its location at 15078 Highland Drive, McKenzie. Misty Moon and Katey Holder are the owners of the clothing store, offering newborn to 14-16 children’s clothes and maternity clothes. more
In 1974, Ricky Price was a senior at McKenzie High School. While many of his fellow graduates visited area colleges on their ‘career day’, Price chose instead to visit Pepsi, based in Martin at the time. In 2024, Price celebrates 50 years at the family-owned Pepsi MidAmerica and as a graduate of McKenzie High School. more
More than 500 agriculture partners and industry leaders will gather on June 24, 2022 at Carroll County Shooting Sports Park for the West Tennessee Shooting Hunger event. Hosted by Tennessee Farm Bureau, Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st and Tennessee Farmers Cooperative, Shooting Hunger is a sporting clays event raising funds to decrease food insecurity across Tennessee. more

The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office released updated K-12 education information for the 2021-22 school year. The updated information includes data on teacher salaries, student enrollment, funding, graduation rates and ACT scores. New data indicates that the McKenzie Special School District’s enrollment is set to grow back to pre-COVID numbers in the coming years. more

Burlap bags may not be at the top of most children’s Christmas list for shiny new toys, but these “grass sacks” provided fun play for young Willie Huffman, who rode along as his mother dragged him across a field on the bag she filled with cotton, picked by hand. As Huffman grew a little older, he would also find himself picking cotton from the fields, in addition to mowing lawns and hauling hay at only 12 years old. more
The Tennessee Valley Association of REALTORS® awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Nate Ricketts on June 15, 2022. Ricketts is a 2022 graduate of Huntington High School and will attend University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall. He is the son of Tonya and Donald (Bud) Ricketts, Jr. more

The Inglenook Book Club held its February 14 meeting at 2 p.m. at Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 18 members in attendance. President Gail Mack was absent, and Vice President Shirley Martin called the meeting to order. She thanked the hostesses Victoria Ard and Carolyn Potts for the beautifully decorated and delicious homemade heart-shaped cakes made by Victoria, along with fresh grapes, medley mix, and assorted beverages. more
