Average gasoline prices in Tennessee have fallen 16.2 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.75/g on August 1, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,821 stations in Tennessee. more
COVID-19 numbers are on the rise once again. The week of July 17-23, Tennessee averaged 2,888 positive cases out of 6,182 tests per day. Seven cases per day resulted in hospitalization, and 13 resulted in death.  more

NASHVILLE — State Veterinarian Dr. Samantha Beaty advises horse owners to be alert after another confirmed case of Potomac Horse Fever (PHF) in Tennessee. This week’s detection in a horse in Wayne County adds to the two confirmed cases in DeKalb and Rutherford counties earlier this month.  more

NASHVILLE (July 28) — The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) announced Paris Utility Authority as one of twelve entities receiving a total grant funding of $5.2 million to install direct current fast-charging (DCFC) infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) along prioritized interstate or major highway corridors across the state.  more
NASHVILLE (July 28) — New data released by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development showed increased unemployment rates across the United States and Tennessee during June. The country’s unemployment rate in June was 3.8%, a 0.4 percent-point increase from May’s rate. Tennessee’s June unemployment rate was 4.3%, a 0.9 percent-point increase from May’s rate. Taking seasonal unemployment into account, there is little change between the two months. Both entities have decreased unemployment rates from June 2021.  more
Tennessee voters will go to the polls August 4 to elect candidates in various offices in the general election and state and federal primaries. In Carroll County, the general election includes all county and school board offices, along with primaries in state representatives, governor and U.S. Congress. more

I met Larry Logan in 1981, when I came to Grace Baptist Church, where I would serve as pastor for 34 years. Larry was the Juvenile Judge with an office in McKenzie. I sought his help with a youth headed for trouble. He was eager to help then, and he had continued to be a tremendous help to youth and others, I have observed him during his tenure as judge. His love for people, his honesty and his knowledge of the law are apparent when he is on the bench. more

CARROLL COUNTY — An ongoing joint investigation by special agents with the Drug Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Huntingdon Police Department, and McKenzie Police Department has resulted in the arrest of four people on drug, weapons, and child endangerment charges. more
HENRY COUNTY — An innovative asphalt grinding and paving operation is in progress between McKenzie and Paris on U.S. 79 (S.R. 76).  In one operation, Dustrol, Inc. of Kansas removes the top layer of asphalt, conditions it and reapplies it. more

PARIS — Henry County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway stated he along with  Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton and State Representative Tandy Darby drove out to Puryear to go over details of what will be a 3.1-mile portion of the highway that will start around Howard Road in Henry County and go to the Kentucky state line. more
Average gasoline prices declined in Jackson in the last week, averaging $3.819 per gallon July 24, according to GasBuddy’s survey of stations in Tennessee. Prices in Jackson were $4.556 per gallon a month ago and $2.767 per gallon one year ago. The national average price of regular gas has declined by 20 cents in the last week and stands at $4.327 per gallon. more
