The State Review Board of the Tennessee Historical Commission is meeting Wednesday, January 24, to discuss eight sites from across the state that may be placed on The National Register of Historic Places. Of those eight nominees, McKenzie’s historic Webb School is one of those to be discussed. more
McKENZIE (January 15) — Carroll County school children won’t see the inside of a classroom until at least Friday of this week due to inclement weather. Carroll County schools announced Monday that schools are closed Tuesday through Thursday; a determination about Friday classes will be made later in the week. As of Monday, Weakley County schools announced closings for Tuesday and Wednesday. Henry County schools will be closed Tuesday. more
McKENZIE (January 11) — On July 1, 2024, residents within the city limits of McKenzie will begin seeing RaeKar garbage trucks picking up their solid waste. During Thursday’s meeting of the McKenzie City Council, the board in a split decision voted to move away from Republic Services and retain RaeKar Waste Management as its garbage collection company. more

After months of discussion and debate, the Henry County Commission and the Henry County Medical Center’s board of trustees have given their blessing to move forward with the sale of the Henry County Healthcare Center. Since the property is held by the hospital, the county’s private act of 1953, which created the hospital, has to be amended and accepted by both houses of the Tennessee Legislature and the governor. more
HUNTINGDON (January 4) — United States Senator Marsha Blackburn made a stop Thursday afternoon in Huntingdon as part of her 95 counties tour. Senator Blackburn’s stop in Carroll County was at the manufacturing plant of Dynamix Casting Fluxes. Local government officials with employees of the plant met with the senator. more
NASHVILLE (December 2023) — A long-range study authorized by the State of Tennessee indicates Amtrak could have a new route through West Tennessee including Carroll County and eventually connect Memphis, Nashville and Chattanooga in Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. A $500,000 federal grant funded the study by Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR). more

PARIS (December 18) — On Monday, Henry County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway announced TDOT has given the county the green light on the five-lane expansion of HWY 614 from the state line to Puryear. He said the five-lane has been approved and is in the 10-year plan for Henry County. “Everyone knows how hard we worked for this and now we’re finally on the way,” he said. more

January Deep Freeze Closed 2022 Year Some Tennessee residents received the white Christmas they had in their letters to Santa. Freezing temperatures along with snow and ice put a damper on the holiday as TVA and local electric municipalities participated in scheduling rolling blackouts. Carroll County was to be included but the blackouts were short lived in the county. more
