Authorities: McKenzie Man Dies While Training

McKENZIE — Russell “Rusty” T. Newman, 55, of Old State Route 76, McKenzie, in Henry County, died Monday, July 8 while on his morning exercise route, where he bikes and runs.
According to a report issued by the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, on July 8 at approximately 5:41 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an unresponsive man near the road on Eli Brown Road in Henry County. Sheriff’s deputies and EMS responded and did find Russell. Deputy Gary Carroll assisted EMS in administering CPR to Mr. Newman until EMS transported him to the Henry County Medical Center. Once at the medical center Mr. Newman was pronounced dead from what is believed to be natural causes. There were no signs of foul play and nothing to indicate Mr. Newman had suffered from any exterior trauma.

Newman managed the family-owned business of McKenzie Auto Parts. He was an avid competitor and loved to bike, run, and swim. He competed in triathlons.
