Baitfish Released in 1000-Acre Recreation Lake

Posted

Approximately 12,500 threadfin shad were released on Tuesday at the Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreational Lake.

Officials from the Carroll County Watershed Authority, County Mayor Joseph Butler, Huntingdon Mayor Dale Kelley, and Chamber President Brad Hurley joined several local anglers in watching the release of the fish.

The threadfin shad were paid for by the Carroll County Chamber Fish Care Account. As soon as more funds are secured, more orders for threadfin shad will be made.

The shad are baitfish for the bass population, which is numerous in the lake, but lack adequate baitfish to flourish.

The lake hosts the Bassmaster Junior Bass Tournament on the lake each year along with other tournaments and daily fishing.

Anyone who would like to donate to the Fish Care Account can do so by contacting the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce office at 731-986-4664.
