Baptist Carroll County Celebrates Independence Day With Ceremony Honoring Veterans

HUNTINGDON (June 30) — Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County recently celebrated Independence Day with a ceremony honoring team members who have served in the United States military.

Congressman David Kustoff, representative of Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District, attended and provided words of encouragement to the hospital staff and the community.

The ceremony included the raising of the flag, singing of the National Anthem and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord’s Prayer. Baptist veterans in attendance included Leitha Bunyard, Tony Cain, Rob Eldredge, Dal Henry, Frank Holcomb, Derrick Jowers, Renee King, Karen Neely and Bobbie Sykes.

Michael Dennison, chaplain and director of pastoral care for Baptist Carroll County provided opening remarks and scripture: “We honor our veterans for their commitment to the workplace and their service to our country. We acknowledge the sacrifice our veteran team members and their families have made, and we are extremely grateful. May the Lord bless all veterans for their commitment to freedom. ‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. Psalm 91:1-2.’”

Other special parts of the event included the presentation of commemorative Bibles to all veterans by Jerry Holland, representative of the Gideons International. Susan Breeden, CEO and administrator at Baptist Carroll County, recognized the 890th EN CO National Guard, American Legion, and Carroll County leaders for their service. Baptist Carroll County, acknowledged Huntingdon and Carroll County law enforcement and fire departments. Chief Walter Smothers of the Huntingdon Fire Department supplied a fire truck displaying an American flag flown from the truck ladder. American Legion chaplain Wilma Pearson provided a scripture reading and lead the singing of “God Bless America.” And Reverend Jimmy Furr of Faith Baptist Church concluded the ceremony by providing a ceremonial veterans prayer. Participants waved American flags and gave a round of applause to all who served in foreign and domestic conflicts.
