Bobby Gee’s Diner Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Posted
McKENZIE — Bobby Gee’s Diner is celebrating its tenth anniversary on December 12 and is hosting a celebration.

An open house is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on that date. Food and drinks are provided on that Monday.

On December 12, 2012, Bobby and Cindy Gaylord opened their diner to the public and have been successful ever since.

Bobby Gaylord is originally from Michigan. When Bobby was in high school, he enjoyed being a cook at a restaurant. After high school, Bobby worked for a construction company for a number of years.

Cindy Gaylord was born in McKenzie and was raised in Michigan. Cindy waitressed and worked in the restaurant business. Before opening their restaurant, Cindy also worked on some construction jobs. The couple moved to McKenzie in July of 2012 to open their very own restaurant.

Before opening the diner, Bobby and Cindy had been interested in opening a restaurant for a while and they were both interested in doing something together. They looked at a number of locations in the surrounding areas before deciding on their current location in McKenzie. Bobby and Cindy knew when they saw the building that it was what they were looking for to open their business.

The first location of Bobby Gee’s Diner was once the old Polar Bar. When learning the history of the Polar Bar building, Bobby and Cindy knew that the building would be perfect for their vision.

Bobby and Cindy wanted to create a place that could offer a wide variety of food choices for their customers. When discussing a theme for their diner, they decided on a 1950s and 1960s theme because that is what Cindy’s parents, Robert and Faye Warren, wanted. The name of the restaurant is named after Bobby himself. Bobby Gee is what his mother, Rosemary, called him because there are so many Bobby’s in the family. The business moved to 131 South Main Street, where it is now located.

The diner also has an annual cruise-in for classic cars to be on display in front of the restaurant.

The Gaylords sustained a setback in 2018 when an after-hours fire in the kitchen heavily damaged the building. The couple remodeled and reopened and held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate.

Bobby and Cindy enjoy their usual customers and also enjoy meeting new ones. They are very thankful for the support from the town and do what they can to give back.
