Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. Approximately 1 in 8 women in the United States will get breast cancer at some point. The good news is most women can survive breast cancer if it is found and treated early.
Women, age 40-49, should talk with their doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them.
Women, age 50-74, should get a mammogram every two years or more frequent.
Women should talk to their doctors about the risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member had breast or ovarian cancer. Doctors can help decide when and how often to get mammograms.
This February, UT Extension Service-Carroll County is participating in National Cancer Prevention Month by hosting a free breast cancer awareness event.
