Burned Home is Safety Hazard, Unsightly

Posted

McKENZIE — A property owner along Woodrow Street is concerned for the safety of school children as they return to McKenzie Middle School for the 2019-20 year. A burned-out home fronting the school is a safety hazard and eyesore.
Dirk Brakebusch, owner of a home on Woodrow, adjacent to the burned structure, said he is concerned for the students and how other people will perceive the burned structure as they visit the school or attend football games at Rebel Stadium. The home ignited earlier this year in the early morning hours. It is beyond repair. Until last week, the lawn had not been mowed.
Additionally, another property on Woodrow has inoperable, abandoned automobiles parked on the lawn, said Brakebusch.
Brakebusch contacted the insurance fire inspector, who indicated he is finished with the inspection and the structured can be razed. Brakebusch reached out to The Banner hoping the extra public awareness would speed the property owner or the city to take prompt action to remedy the situation.
