Carroll County Arts is hosting the Trivia Bowl on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 16835 Highland Drive, McKenzie. Support the arts in Carroll County and register teams of three to five people by calling Glynda Rich at 731-225-4470 or Denise Sam at 731-697-1844. The registration fee is $25 and can be paid in advance or at the door.

 

The Smalltown Cruisers Antique Car Club meets the second Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. at the Hollow Rock Fire station, 21280 Seminary Street, Hollow Rock. The monthly Cruise-Ins begin in April. For more information, contact Jan Ostiguy at 217-304-2606 or email jano1970@att.net.

 

The Cupid Shuffle 5K/One Mile Fun Run/Tot Trot to benefit Matthew Jones takes place Saturday, February 11, 2023, at McKenzie City Park, 570 Como Street, McKenzie. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race begins at 8 a.m. Preregistration guarantees a shirt and a mug. Tee shirts and mugs available for sale on site and hot chocolate provided post-race. Matthew has been fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease since January 2021.

 

The Carroll County Republican Party meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the court room of the Public Safety building, 12740 Lexington Street, Huntingdon.

 

On the third Tuesday of each month, The Shepherd’s Table community kitchen serves meals at First Presbyterian Church located at 19835 E. Main Street, Huntingdon. Meals are served restaurant style with drive-through available after 6 p.m. It is open to the public and there is no cost. Donations are accepted. All are invited.

It is our mission to create a community atmosphere where individuals can come in and have a meal and a comfortable setting. We encourage friendly conversation, prayers and laughter. The Mount Zion United Methodist Church offers a monthly food pantry on the second Saturday of every month from 9-11 a.m. The church is located at 125 Mt Zion Church Road, Huntingdon.

 

The McKenzie City Council meets at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of each month. 

 

The McKenzie TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter meets on Mondays at 3 p.m. at the McKenzie Church of Christ gym. Anyone interested in losing weight can join. Visitors are welcome. For more information, contact Linda Lawrence at 731-352-7309. If no answer, leave a message.

 

Carroll County Commission meets the second Monday of each month, 7 p.m., in the Conference Room of the Carroll County Office Complex, High Street, Huntingdon. There are no meetings in December, February, and July.

Carroll County Budget Committee meets Thursday, January 19, 9 am, in the Conference Room of the Office Complex. 

 

It’s time to order those delicious Florida strawberries. We are taking orders now through February 14th for delivery in early March.

A flat is $30 and half flat $18. Pre-orders may be done by phone or in person. 

Saturday, February 4, 4-7 p.m., Carroll County Humane Society is hosting an all-you-can-eat soup supper with a drink and dessert for only $10. Additional concessions will be available throughout bingo. This event is at the CB&T bank building in Huntingdon located on West Main behind the bank. If you’d like to enter a crock pot of soup, we will be letting everyone vote for their favorite with a prize going to the winner.

We would also appreciate donations of desserts, crackers and breads. 

Big news! We have the band 24 Seven booked to provide you with 4 hours of listening and dancing pleasure. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at Carroll County Humane Society. Door prizes, silent auction, bar available for purchasing and bar snacks provided. Poot’s BBQ food truck will be set up at the event with plenty of great food for purchase. 

Note about the band. 24 Seven is always in demand and we feel fortunate to have snagged them for this event because they are fantastic! They play a lineup of music including country, rock, easy listening and top hits from different decades.

McKenzie Industrial Board meets Thursday, January 19, 6 p.m. at the Railyard co-working space on Broadway Street.

 

Huntingdon Board of Education meets Wednesday, January 18, 5 p.m. in the Central Office, 585 High Street, Huntingdon.
