UNION CITY, FORMERLY McKENZIE - Mrs. Carlyne Wheatley, 80, a resident of Union City, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at her residence.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Union City First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Doug Norfleet officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery near McKenzie.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope, P. O. Box 582, Union City, TN 38281.

Mrs. Wheatley was born September 13, 1938, in Gleason Tenn., daughter of the late Carlos and Pauline (Byrd) Brinkley. She married Baxter Wheatley April 25, 1958.  He survives. She was a graduate of Gleason High School and Bethel University, with a BS in biology, and a minor in math. 

Mrs. Wheatley was a retired school teacher, having taught at Cottage Grove, Puryear, McKenzie and Union City for over thirty years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Union City, where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the United Methodist Women and Margret Carter Sunday School class. She was also a member of The Review Club, and very active in Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol (David) Martin, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina; a son and daughter-in-law, Stan (Dena) Wheatley, of Mebane, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Hailey Wheatley, of Mebane; and two sisters, Alice Tapper of Southaven, MS and Joyce Barksdale of Clifton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by one brother, Marvin Brinkley.
