McKENZIE (June 22) — In conjunction with McKenzie’s 150th Birthday, Carroll Arts hosted the Heritage Arts Festival downtown Saturday at Connie’s Place. The event featured artwork, crafts, demonstrations and live entertainment by local contributors as well as a variety of games and ice cream.
Connie’s was filled with paintings, drawings, quilts, embroidery and needlepoint. Contributing pieces were Linda Coleman, Glynda Rich, Meredith Daffron, Lydia Warren, Austin Gant, Paula Watkins, Gerald Warren, Elinor Warren, Rachel Forgy, Fran Musser, Brooxie Burns, Marlene Kreuter, Millie Finley and Chloe Sumrok.
Kathryn Adams of Huntingdon demonstrated the process of carding wool from Jacob sheep to prepare it for other uses such as spinning. She also displayed balls of wool that can be used as a replacement to dryer sheets and a wide variety of handmade soaps. Christina Baril of Jackson spun wool into yarn on a foot-operated wheel.

Casey Gant of McKenzie displayed a variety of crafts, including pinecone wreathes, cornhusk dolls and gnomes and fairies for gardens.
Unique items on display included a quilt by Glynda Rich’s grandmother Millie Finley made from ties that belonged to Rich’s father, Rev. Glenn Finley. Also notable was a crochet dress made for Linda Edge by her mother.
Live entertainers included: Patrick Crocker of Christmasville performing Gospel songs; McLemoresville Mayor Phil Williams reciting poems about country life written by his father, Billy O. Williams; Brittany Martin of McKenzie singing country and folk songs, including “Unbreakable Heart” by Carroll County native Jessica Andrews; Sara and David Featherston and Gabbie Green, all of McKenzie, performing worship songs; and Veronica Davis of McKenzie singing classic country songs.
There was a variety of classic games such as chess and checkers for kids and adults alike to enjoy, and ice cream cones served for a donation.
