Carroll County Electric Installs Fiber for New Electronic Meters

Posted

Carroll County Electric Department is installing fiber optics as part of its rollout of the new electronic meters that will be installed at each and every customer’s location. The new meters will report the customer’s electrical usage to the central office in Huntingdon.
The system relies on fiber optics to backhaul the data from each of the remote data collection points located at substations. Most of the fiber is now installed and extended to the central office in Huntingdon. Department employees are using a new fiber repair trailer in which on-site repairs can be made on the system’s fiber.
