Pursuit, Drug Violations — A Huntingdon man was arrested following a May 5 police pursuit in Huntingdon.
Andrew Smothers, 32, of 105 Green Valley Road was charged with multiple drug/narcotics and other violations. According to the report by Deputy Ethan Parham, he observed a black 1994 Nissan pickup truck driven by Smothers on Lexington Street at around 9:40 a.m. A computer check showed that the vehicle’s license plate did not match the vehicle. Parham activated his blue lights and attempted to pull the truck over, but it accelerated to a high rate of speed and crossed Highway 22 into a gravel driveway. At one point while pursuing Smothers, Parham’s patrol vehicle collided with Smothers’ truck and both vehicles went into a ditch. Smothers fled on foot but was finally apprehended by Parham and another officer.
Smothers allegedly resisted being taken into custody as was tased by officers. Officers found three grams of methamphetamine in four baggies, a small bag of marijuana, a plastic bag containing 99 Alprazolam pills, and $2,083 in Smothers’ possession. Eleven ounces of marijuana in 11 bags, digital scales, and meth residue were found in a backpack inside Smothers’ vehicle.
Drugs In Jail — A female inmate was charged when illegal drugs were allegedly found in her possession.
Tammy Therese Toth, 55, of Bruceton was charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility. According to the report by Deputy Dennis Adkins, a bag containing Xanax and Thorazine pills was found on Toth’s person while seeing the jail nurse to provide a urine sample.
Assault — A Cedar Grove man was arrested May 8 after allegedly striking his wife.
Nathaniel Chadwick Ward, 41, of 1780-139 Patsy Lane was charged with simple assault. According to the report by Deputy Kenny Tucker, Ward and his wife got into a verbal argument at Dollar General in Cedar Grove. After they left the store and got into a vehicle, Ward allegedly struck his wife in the head and chest several times and pulled her hair.
Theft — An inmate was recently charged for allegedly stealing from his mother’s bank account.
Charles Joseph Baker, 29, of Cedar Grove was charged with theft over $1,000 and less than $2,500. According to the report by Deputy Jason Walker, Baker’s mother, Roberta Drinkard, contacted the Sheriff’s Department and reported that someone had taken a total of $1,361.83 out of her account in several unauthorized transactions between March 3 and April 16.
Investigators found that Baker, who is an inmate at the Carroll County Jail, had gotten his mother’s debit card number without her permission and had given that number to friends so that they could put money in his commissary account at the jail.
DUI — Two Benton County men were arrested during a May 4 traffic stop on Highway 114 near Buena Vista.
William Dale Porter, 56, of Camden was charged with DUI (third offense), violation of implied consent, driving on a revoked license, and habitual motor offender, and Bradley Glenn Shepherd, 53, of Camden was charged with DUI by allowance and public intoxication.

According to the report by Deputy Cody Walker, he was responding to a call about an intoxicated driver identified as Porter when he encountered a red Dodge pickup truck driven by Porter with Shepherd as a passenger.
After conducting a traffic stop, Walker noted that he smelled alcohol while speaking with Porter and observed a box of beer behind the seat. Porter refused to perform field sobriety tests, saying that he was physically unable.
Walker reported that Porter was unstable on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he admitted to drinking alcohol earlier that day. A computer check revealed that Porter’s license was revoked and that he was a habitual motor offender with multiple DUI convictions. Porter refused to take a blood alcohol or breath test.
Criminal Impersonation — A Huntingdon man was arrested May 4 on an outstanding warrant and for allegedly giving false identification.
Joseph Robert Forrest, 28, of 120 Bridgeman Street was charged with criminal impersonation. According to the report by Deputy Cody Walker, he responded a call about a man being sick on the side of the road on Highway 22 near Huntingdon.
EMS personnel and Huntingdon police officers were already on the scene when Walker arrived. The man, identified as Forrest by one of the HPD officers, gave Walker a false name when asked to identify himself. Walker warned Forrest that he could be charged for providing false information, but Forrest gave Walker another false name when asked again about his identity. A computer check revealed that Forrest had an active warrant out of Benton County.
Criminal Trespassing — A Bruceton man was arrested May 8 for allegedly entering a home against the will of residents.
James Darrell Walker, 48, of 30 Loop Road was charged with aggravated criminal trespassing.
According to the report by Deputy Cody Walker, he responded to a residence on Old Pisgah Road after receiving a call from residents, who said that Darrell Walker was on their property and refused to leave. Deputy Walker found Darrell Walker and two female residents at the home when he arrived.
The two women both gave written statements that Darrell Walker had entered their home without their permission, even after they had asked him to leave the property.
Burglary — Deputies are investigating a recent burglary on private property near Huntingdon.
Judy Roberts contacted the Sheriff’s Department on May 4 and told deputies that her shop at 7210 Highway 22 had been broken into and multiple items had been taken. Reported as stolen were an arc welder valued at $300, a chop saw valued at $300, a skill saw valued at $150, a generator valued at $300, a turbo heater valued at $200, and several other items.
